What exactly is the singer afraid of when he says that he’s “frightened of this thing that I’ve become” and what is the “right thing” that he must do?
That he may have changed in ways the woman won’t appreciate; what’s “right” is letting her know how he’s always felt.
Great song, compelling refrain, utterly cloddish lyric about Serengeti and Kilimanjaro… sooo forced.
Never paid any attention to the lyrics before, and looking at them now they just seem like juvenile poetry, trying desperately to sound meaningful but badly failing. I don’t think any lines make sense in themselves, let alone in association with each other.
I’ve always wondered whether there is a word for that, other than “damning with faint praise.” They say Kilimanjaro “rises like Olympus,” when Olympus is not only much lower, but much much lower relative to the surrounding terrain.
I don’t care how many gods live there, it’s like saying Manute Bol towers like Tom Cruise.
