This graphic is from the WSJ and shows the impact of the new tax deal on singles, single parents and families. I guess these are typical WSJ readers?
Yeah… single mom makes $250K? Where is that?
Yes, the average single mother would make more like $25K. They must have accidentally slipped in an extra zero there.
Oops, just saw this in a pit thread too. Apologies for the duplication…
You know what? I *gross *only a little more than the example single parent and single woman pay in taxes. I think I have a pretty nice life. And yeah, my taxes went up, but only to what they would have been all along if the SS tax break hadn’t been there–and I’d rather be paying into SS, thankyouverymuch.
Boo-fucking-hoo to them.
Not sure where they get their numbers. Maybe 20% of the highest income-earning single parents get that…? If that?
I hope the tea party people realize that if they aint on that chart, they aint Republicans.
Did you notice that the people with the least income were Black?
Oh Jesus, let’s get a violin section in here. At a relatively generous 5% return and assuming no loss or risk of capital, that married couple has $3.6M invested in order to pull down $180k in investment income.
Life just sucks so hard for some people, don’t it?
yes, but sadly they are only in the top 12%. The married couple only makes it as part of the top 2%.
Only the singles are in the 1%
(According to this site : http://www.whatsmypercent.com/ )
In comparison, In Canada, I make about half the combined income of the retired couple, and I pay about the same amount in combined income tax. And I’m married with kids. And my wife works and pays her income taxes too.
Stop your fucking whining, basically. Although I think this pictorial is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek regarding this: at least I hope so.
Coming from the WSJ? I wouldn’t bet on that.
And witness how heart-wrenchingly oppressed those folks look! OMG! What seventh-world nation is that they’re supposedly in? Can’t we start some kind of charitable campaign to raise funds to help them and all their oppressed compatriots out of their impoverished misery?
Yeah, but that’s Canada! A cruel, savage, frozen wasteland! Its wretchedly oppressed people forced to subsist on hideous travesties of “food”, toiling away for the glory of their despotic Queen, and subject to the arbitrary whims of the Death Panels when their strength finally goes!
I know people in Buffalo, right on the border! Just say the word and we’ll get you out, man!
Yeah, no. As mentioned, this is from the WSJ, which is more and more becoming the print edition of Fox News (both owned by NewsCorp).
Here’s the WSJ article that carried the graphic - see if you can find where this was in any way tongue-in-cheek.
That’s what’s cracking me up about it. Those poor kids know that dinner may or may not be coming tonight.
As someone said on another board, that single mom has to pay all the medical bills for her child’s freakishly long arms.
That’s why they’re frowning. They were discriminated against by the artist who drew this.
Hm…that family of four. After 2013 taxes, they’re making $450 thousand and change. They could send *all four *of those kids to Harvard–full tuition, room, and board–and Mom and Dad would still have a quarter million a year left over to scrape by on. (Of course that ignores state taxes, but then again those kids aren’t nearly old enough to go to college yet.)
“oh noes, how can we manage to struggle through on our fixed income of $180,000 a year?”
Just read the WSJ article. I would’ve found it relevant, except that the income that comes closest to mine is the $180,000; my wife and I make about 1/3 of that amount.
I’m so dead inside I didn’t even notice, but upon closer inspection, can’t you see that they’re all huddled together for warmth?
YOU HEARTLESS BASTARDS!!!
