Anyone else like this? I ran across the TV show on PBS in the mid 80s. Then I read the books.

Books are still in print. It seems that the DVDs are only available in the Euro TV format.

I would check Amazon for the movies. They probably are available used; most stuff is. The third book was never filmed, but I don’t know the reason. I actually only like the first movie.

The problem is even if it’s used, the DVD is not playable on US DVD players. They were never released for the US market as far as I can tell.
The entire show was uploaded to Youtube about 4 years ago, here.
I saw only a couple of episodes in the late-80s, where I must have caught in on some local PBS show. The original trilogy had a very big impact on me as a child and teenager, and of course it was made into a running comic strip for Boy’s Life, which I was reading at that time as well. They were an early key to unlocking my interest in writing stories myself. I never read the “prequel” novel, When the Tripods Came.
I never saw the show, but did really enjoy the trilogy many years ago. Never read the prequel.
Waaa?
There was a TV show?! For real I read and enjoyed these books as a preteen.
I liked these a lot when I was a kid, and they led me to ready a bunch of John Christopher’s (R.I.P.) other books. The BBC TV show with the wonderful Ken Freeman music was also something I really enjoyed. Unfortunately they ran out of money or it was cancelled before they got to the third book., so it remains uncompleted.
Uuuuh. Loved the books as a kid. In fact I still sort of remember a lot of the books quite vividly now.
I don’t think it was a national PBS show. I think our local station ran it on their own.
Yeah, but you haven’t missed much. The basic plot of the books, with a lot of padding added, it was slow moving and dull. Cancelled after the second book, the final book never filmed.
