I came across this quote from Trump in the last few days but it’s from an interview with The Atlantic in April. “I run the country and the world.” I imagine he will try a lot of international extortion since it works so well here.

The nodfather and his criminal gang have a whiff of a plan for Gaza.
Since last month’s cease-fire, Gaza has been divided by a yellow line splitting Hamas-controlled Gaza to the west from Israeli-occupied Gaza to the east. At first, the line was invisible. But after Israeli soldiers repeatedly opened fire on Gazans who crossed it, Israel began to give the line a physical dimension with yellow concrete blocks. Now a U.S.-backed plan designed to house thousands of Palestinians on the Israeli side of the line could make the separation more prominent and, some fear, more permanent.
U.S. officials call the new developments Alternate Safe Communities. The initiative is designed to create communities of vetted Gazans, but it would separate them from those on the Hamas-controlled side of the yellow line, where the large majority of people in Gaza live, an official in Israel and a State Department official familiar with the planning told me.
Lieutenant General Patrick Frank—the military lead coordinating efforts to implement President Donald Trump’s peace plan—recently told colleagues that each settlement should include a medical center, a school, an administrative building, and “temporary housing for approximately 25,000 people,” according to an email I reviewed that has not been previously reported on. He emphasized the urgency of moving ahead with the plan, the email said. A senior Trump-administration official confirmed to me that at least one pilot Alternate Safe Community will be built. The first site being eyed for development, in the south of Gaza near Rafah, is very likely owned by Palestinians, as are the other potential sites, of which there are many. The senior administration official couldn’t immediately say if the United States knows who owns the property on which the pilot community will be built.
There are more details at the link. But why does this remind me of this disaster from the Vietnam War ?
And the United Kingdom is no longer treating the United States as a trusted military partner.
The United Kingdom is no longer sharing intelligence with the US about suspected drug trafficking vessels in the Caribbean because it does not want to be complicit in US military strikes and believes the attacks are illegal, sources familiar with the matter told CNN.
The UK’s decision marks a significant break from its closest ally and intelligence sharing partner and underscores the growing skepticism over the legality of the US military’s campaign around Latin America.
For years, the UK, which controls a number of territories in the Caribbean where it bases intelligence assets, has helped the US locate vessels suspected of carrying drugs so that the US Coast Guard could interdict them, the sources said. That meant the ships would be stopped, boarded, its crew detained, and drugs seized.
The intelligence was typically sent to Joint Interagency Task Force South, a task force stationed in Florida that includes representatives from a number of partner nations and works to reduce the illicit drug trade.
But shortly after the US began launching lethal strikes against the boats in September, however, the UK grew concerned that the US might use intelligence provided by the British to select targets. British officials believe the US military strikes, which have killed 76 people, violate international law, the sources said. The intelligence pause began over a month ago, they said.
The UN’s human rights chief, Volker Türk, said last month that the strikes violate international law and amount to “extrajudicial killing.” The UK agrees with that assessment, the sources told CNN.
They’re not wrong.
I thought the revolving door administration meant people getting kicked out, not in.
A 62-page document written by President Donald Trump’s on-again-off-again pick to run NASA, billionaire Jared Isaacman , outlines a sweeping, ambitious, and at times controversial plan for the space agency.
Isaacman, who was tapped to be NASA administrator after Trump was elected in 2024, only to see his nomination retracted months later, was renominated for the top job last Tuesday.
While Isaacman has publicly acknowledged the leaked document, which is labeled May 2025 but was recently leaked to several news outlets, he said in a social media post that “parts of it are now dated.” He did not specify which portions were obsolete.
It nonetheless set off a flurry of speculation about how the space agency would function with Isaacman at the helm. A copy of the document was obtained and authenticated by CNN.
In his statement, which was posted the day of his renomination, Isaacman said that “Project Athena,” as the paper is titled, “was always intended to be a living document refined through data gathering post-confirmation.”
“I would think it is better to have a plan going into a responsibility as great as the leadership of NASA than no plan at all,” the statement reads.
Among the proposed goals are revamping some NASA centers to focus on nuclear electric propulsion, establishing a new Mars exploration program, and embracing an “accelerate/fix/delete” philosophy to reshape the agency.
Delete, huh? Yeah, that fits perfectly. Personally, if I were a betting man, I’d bet the nodfather simply forgot he’d retracted the nomination or even that he’d offered it before and that’s why this clown’s in the news now.
The nodfather’s sockpuppet Johnson ran out of excuses.
(Reuters) -U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson will swear in Democratic Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva on Wednesday, Johnson’s office said on Tuesday.
Grijalva won a special election in September to succeed her late father in Congress, but her swearing-in was delayed as Johnson kept the House of Representatives out of session since it passed a stopgap funding bill on September 19, in a bid to pressure Senate Democrats to reopen the government.
War Criminal Hegseth cannot permit a woman to lead what he sees as a boys’ club.
A female Navy officer was about to be given a historic role overseeing elite Navy SEALs before Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth allegedly stepped in, a new report claims.
The unnamed officer was set to be the first woman in a Naval Special Warfare command after becoming the first woman to serve with SEAL Team Six as troop commander.
A formal ceremony celebrating the new role was scheduled for last July, but two weeks before the event, her command was canceled, multiple sources familiar with the matter told CNN .
There was speculation in the Naval Special Warfare community that the command was likely canceled by Hegseth because he didn’t want a woman in a role that is closely aligned with recruiting Navy SEALs and other elite roles.
“They want to keep it the brotherhood and don’t like that she’s coming in and challenging the status quo,” one Navy special operations official told CNN.
What the everloving fuck?
President Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that he was giving Veterans Day a new name while speaking at a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
“As you know today is not only Veterans Day, but it’s my proclamation that we are now going to be saying and calling Victory Day for World War I,” Trump said.
The president said he was recently at an event and saw that European countries were celebrating Victory Day, but the U.S. was not.
“I saw France was celebrating another Victory Day for World War II, and other countries were celebrating,” Trump rambled. “They were all celebrating. We’re the one that won the wars.”
Moments later the president rattled off watching other countries observing the holiday by that name.
“I watched it. I watched UK. I watched Russia. They were celebrating Victory Day World War II, and I said ‘we got to have a Victory Day.’ Nobody even talked about it in our country,” Trump said.
“From now on we’re going to be celebrating Victory Day for World War I, for World War II and frankly for everything else,” he declared.
Had he not bothered to dodge the draft, maybe he’d’ve learned something rather interesting about the United States’ observance of Veterans Day . He would have been aware of President Wilson’s rationale for the observance:
On November 11, 1919, President Woodrow Wilson issued a message to his countrymen on the first Armistice Day, in which he expressed what he felt the day meant to Americans:
A year ago today our enemies laid down their arms in accordance with an armistice which rendered them impotent to renew hostilities, and gave to the world an assured opportunity to reconstruct its shattered order and to work out in peace a new and more just set of international relations. The soldiers and people of the European Allies had fought and endured for more than four years to uphold the barrier of civilization against the aggressions of armed force. We ourselves had been in the conflict something more than a year and a half.
With splendid forgetfulness of mere personal concerns, we remodeled our industries, concentrated our financial resources, increased our agricultural output, and assembled a great army, so that at the last our power was a decisive factor in the victory. We were able to bring the vast resources, material and moral, of a great and free people to the assistance of our associates in Europe who had suffered and sacrificed without limit in the cause for which we fought.
Out of this victory there arose new possibilities of political freedom and economic concert. The war showed us the strength of great nations acting together for high purposes, and the victory of arms foretells the enduring conquests which can be made in peace when nations act justly and in furtherance of the common interests of men.
To us in America the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service, and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of nations

Easy one to respond to by Scotland: we are introducing a £1bn golf tourist tax applicable to any heads of state.
Yes, I was in agreement. Folks here often ask on Cafe Society when some BBC content (David Attenborough’s programs, for instance) will make it to whatever platform BBC content can “legitimately” be seen on the various platforms geared to it in the USA (WAG: BBC America, Roku, Hulu?) Panorama (premiered in 1953) is and has not been available. A very fortunate thing, since it then has no jurisdiction in NY, Fla or anywhere in the USA.
While I could watch every Dr. Who if inclined, there are only about 40 Panorama’s available, yet this one aired October 28, 2024, is perhaps curiously not available (and wasn’t last week yet that was after I heard of it).
The journalists/producers, etc, of news programs ought to have higher standards and know that cherry picking and re-ordering quotes will lend to discredit the show and leave them open to lawsuits. The reordering of Reagan’s quotes last week in Canada allowed Trump and the GOP to call it fake news instead of saying anything bad about Saint Ronnie.
The most recent Panorama is “The Fall of Prince Andrew” and a week ago was “A year since Trump was elected”. Though I’m in the UK - been there, done that.
Yes….”allow”, as if they didn’t already do that even with unedited, completely factual coverage.
It is fair to criticize journalists for missteps. But let’s not take it too far.
Trump and Co. have never needed any factual basis to toss their allegations about. Any such basis, no matter how slim, is merely icing on the cake of their perfidy.
That so many people, including many posters here, give that bunch of criminals and sycophants even a partial pass by instead victim blaming is disheartening and infuriating.
Krugman’s Substack today:
Trump, by contrast*, is engaged in what CNN calls a “lying spree” about inflation. We all know that many media organizations have long had a habit of “sanewashing” Trump, downplaying the craziness of his remarks. What we’re seeing now is “truthwashing,” pretending that there is some factual justification for bald-faced lies.

The felon will soon sign the end of the shutdown. Now what’s he going to blame on the Democrats for his administration not working?
WASHINGTON – The House of Representatives voted Wednesday to end the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, moving past a political mess that has lasted for 43 days and left millions of Americans unable to travel or afford food.
The measure passed on a vote of 222-209 and now heads to the desk of President Donald Trump , whose expected signature around 9:45 p.m. will begin to resolve mass chaos across the country prompted by the crisis.
After weeks without pay, hundreds of thousands of government workers will head back to work in the coming days. Under the terms of the funding package, they’ll be compensated retroactively even though they have not been on the job.
Maybe this is the next thing to blame on the Democrats.
Speaker Mike Johnson announced Wednesday that he would put a contentious bill compelling the release of all of the Justice Department’s Jeffrey Epstein case files to a vote on the House floor next week – earlier than expected.
“We’re going to put that on the floor for a full vote when we get back next week,” Johnson said, adding, “in the meantime I’ll remind everybody the [House] Oversight Committee has been working around the clock” on its own investigation.
Johnson was required to soon put the bill from Reps. Thomas Massie, a Kentucky Republican, and Ro Khanna, a California Democrat, on the floor after the pair successfully deployed an arcane tool in the chamber known as a discharge petition. But he had some leeway to do so.
The Republican leaders’ suggestion that he would move more quickly than expected to put the bill before the full House is a reflection of the growing sense of agitation among members of his party on Capitol Hill. The House GOP – which is fiercely loyal to Trump – is not eager to take the vote, which goes against the president’s own wishes. But many members of the party are also sick of the months of growing pressure from some vocal members of their own party, including Massie and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, and feel they need to vote in favor of releasing the files or risk being accused of protecting pedophiles.
Wow. We are witnessing evolution in real time. Even Johnson has managed to get one vertebra into his worthless skeleton.
“It’s a trap!”
WASHINGTON ‒ President Donald Trump told Republicans in Congress to stay away from House Democrats’ push to force the full release of Jeffrey Epstein-related files after the Nov. 12 release of three emails from the disgraced financier that mentioned the president’s name.
“There should be no deflections to Epstein or anything else, and any Republicans involved should be focused only on opening up our Country, and fixing the massive damage caused by the Democrats!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social .
Trump in his post accused House Democrats of releasing the emails – one in which Epstein alleges Trump “knew about the girls” – because Democrats lost the fight over the nation’s longest-ever government shutdown.
“The Democrats are trying to bring up the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax again because they’ll do anything at all to deflect on how badly they’ve done on the Shutdown, and so many other subjects,” Trump said. “Only a very bad, or stupid, Republican would fall into that trap.”
Don’t tell me the felon renounced his racist birther bullshit. (The bolding is mine.)
President Donald Trump on Tuesday shared a meme on his Truth Social platform that revived the long-debunked “birther” conspiracy theory about his first predecessor in the White House, President Barack Obama.
Trump slammed the “re-Truth” button on an image of Obama taking the oath of office, alongside the caption: “A man using a different name. Swore on a Bible he doesn’t believe in. And betrayed a country he wasn’t born in.”
The felon’s stupid stunt on H-1B visas bites him in the butt.
President Donald Trump has appeared to change his tune on the stringency on one of his immigration policies, speaking about the importance of H-1B visas for specialized labor only a couple months after imposing steep hurdles meant to reduce the number of those visas doled out by U.S. companies.
Trump told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham in an interview released on Sunday that although he continues to believe the U.S. would not be able to increase wages for American employees if it brought in thousands of foreign workers, he also said the American workforce is lacking in key areas.
“You don’t have certain talents, and people have to learn,” he said. “You can’t just say a country is coming in, going to invest $10 billion to build a plant and take people off an unemployment line who haven’t worked in five years and they’re going to start making their missiles. It doesn’t work that way.”
That gibberish at the end shows he almost gets that he fucked up.
The felon’s administration has taken the accufession to a brand new and despicable low.
The White House is once again dismissing the furor over bombshell emails from deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein referencing President Donald Trump as part of a “hoax” and has revealed the identify of the victim named in one of those emails in an effort to discredit them.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement that the victim who was identified in the email from Epstein to co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell was Virginia Giuffre, the former Mar-a-Lago employee whom the president previously said was “stolen” from his Palm Beach, Florida club by Epstein.
Leavitt accused Democrats of having “selectively leaked” the email from Epstein to Maxwell — and two others referencing the president between Epstein and author Michael Wolff — in an effort to “create a fake narrative to smear President Trump.”
“The ‘unnamed victim’ referenced in these emails is the late Virginia Giuffre, who repeatedly said President Trump was not involved in any wrongdoing whatsoever and “couldn’t have been friendlier” to her in their limited interactions,” she said.
I wonder how these idiots in his administration would be acting if they were aware the ridiculous SCOTUS immunity ruling only applied to the felon-in-chief, not them.
Representative Grijalva sworn in and immediately goes to work!
Arizona Democrat Adelita Grijalva was officially sworn in to the House on Wednesday – seven weeks after she won a special election, and just before the House is set to up Senate-passed legislation to reopen the government.
House Speaker Mike Johnson administered the oath of office, which prompted loud applause from Democrats.
Grijalva spoke on the House floor and immediately after that signed the discharge petition that would force a floor vote on compelling the Department of Justice to release the complete files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
“Justice cannot wait another day,” she said.
The felon doesn’t know how to salute or sing God Bless America . (I changed the formatting for readability.)
It’s Veterans Day in the United States, and President Donald Trump celebrated by honoring service members at Arlington National Cemetery.
Naturally, patriotic songs were sung, including “God Bless America.”
Trump stood next to Vice President JD Vance while the song played. He sang the first three words, which happen to be “God bless America…”
…and then stopped.
He just stood there and bopped around a bit while Vance and some of the service members behind him sang all the words.
About 35 seconds in, Trump sang seven more words!
They were also the words “God bless America,” followed by “my home sweet home.”
First off, why is he saluting–and doing so incorrectly anyway? Yes, it’s a patriotic song, but it’s still not the national anthem. Second, why did he change to putting his hand over where he theoretically has a heart?
Maybe I’m being unfair to him. Why should he be forced to sing this song when he’s not accompanied by an accordian?
Makes me winder if they are (a bit belatedly) making up for never denouncing Hitler. Maybe the Church, and the pope himself, standing up against the Holocaust might have made a difference. Maybe, maybe not, but they still should have stood up.
@Monty said: “The felon will soon sign the end of the shutdown. Now what’s he going to blame on the Democrats for his administration not working?”
That’s easy. He’ll say everything is working fine, perfectly, the best it ever has since the country was created in… (consults notes) …1492!
He signed the perfect bill.
He ixnay’d the repubs from doing anything about files about that guy, he only knew vaguely for 19 years.
He shot across the bow of Obama’s birth certificate, so that’s all back in play. As if Obama has the least intent to run for a third term if trump does (please do)
The DOJ are crafting a solid case against that shifty NYC mayor. Or he’ll just tweet tomorrow.
