WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The FBI said on Wednesday it had cut ties with the Anti-Defamation League, a prominent Jewish group that tracks antisemitism, after Republicans criticized the group for including slain activist Charlie Kirk’s organization in a glossary on extremism.

In a social media post, FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau “won’t partner with political fronts masquerading as watchdogs.”

Patel’s announcement followed criticism of the ADL by right-wing activists and leaders, including billionaire Elon Musk, over its inclusion of Kirk’s Turning Point USA in a “Glossary of Extremism and Hate” on its website.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -President Donald Trump’s administration on Wednesday froze $26 billion for Democratic-leaning states, following through on a threat to use the government shutdown to target Democratic priorities.

The targeted programs included $18 billion for transit projects in New York, home to Congress’s top two Democrats, and $8 billion for green-energy projects in 16 Democratic-run states, including California and Illinois. Vice President JD Vance, meanwhile, warned that the administration might extend its purge of federal workers if the shutdown lasts more than a few days.

The moves made clear that Trump would carry out his threat to take advantage of the shutdown to punish his political opponents and extend his control over the $7 trillion federal budget, established by the U.S. Constitution as the domain of Congress.

Along with the “Make America Skilled Again” logo, the image features a strong-chinned white guy standing in front of a construction site.

Of the 7.6 million people to view the image, commenters largely harped on the same point:

Co-conspirator Vance says he’ll stop being racist if a Black man ends the government shutdown.

Vice President JD Vance assured House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) — and the nation — that “the sombrero memes will stop” if he ends the government shutdown that began at midnight on Wednesday during a White House press briefing that afternoon.

Lawyers for President Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court last week to review the legality of his executive order ending birthright citizenship — a high-profile and controversial order that, if enacted, would have profound impacts on the lives of millions of Americans and lawful U.S. residents.

It would also mark the second time in less than a year that the Supreme Court would review the order, at least technically.

Trump administration officials view the order as a key component of his hard-line immigration agenda, which has become a defining feature of Trump’s second White House term. Opponents have argued that the effort is unconstitutional and “unprecedented,” and would impact some 150,000 children in the U.S. who are born annually to parents of non-citizens.

At least one court’s not having the felon’s bullshit.

A judge ruled Tuesday that the top federal prosecutor in Nevada is not serving legally in the role — marking the second time that a judge has partially sidelined one of the Trump administration’s prosecutors.

Sigal Chattah was named interim U.S. attorney for the district of Nevada in March, a temporary appointment that’s legally limited to 120 days. But in July, shortly before that time limit ran out, the Justice Department shifted Chattah to a different job that would allow her to serve as acting U.S. attorney — a separate role that would still let Chattah lead the office.

A group of four criminal defendants argued that this maneuver resulted in Chattah serving as acting U.S. attorney for Nevada illegally. In a ruling Tuesday, U.S. District Judge David Campbell sided with the defendants and barred Chattah from supervising their cases. He declined to dismiss their indictments altogether.

Under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act, if the position of U.S. attorney — a Senate-confirmed post that oversees prosecutions in a court district — becomes vacant, it is supposed to be filled automatically by the first assistant U.S. attorney, who is typically a top career prosecutor. Campbell ruled Tuesday that the Justice Department wasn’t legally allowed to shift Chattah to the role of first assistant U.S. attorney in order to have her take on the acting job.

“The Court cannot accept the government’s assertion that the Attorney General has power to designate anyone she chooses as first assistant and have that person become the acting U.S. Attorney,” the judge wrote in a 32-page ruling. “The [Federal Vacancies Reform Act] was enacted to put an end to precisely such Executive actions.”

Summation: No more shell games.

President Donald Trump snapped at a reporter in the Oval Office on Tuesday, boasting that “I have a bigger heart than you do” during a tense exchange.

The bizarre moment came when CBS’s senior White House correspondent Weijia Jiang challenged Trump on health care subsidies for illegal immigrants after Trump and his top health advisers unveiled their initiative to lower prescription drug prices.

“So when an illegal person comes in, a person who came into our country illegally, therefore breaking the law,” Trump said. “And look, we all have a big hearts. I have a bigger heart than you do. They’re all breaking the law and coming into the country.”

As Trump uttered the words, Dr. Mehmet Oz could be seen nodding in approval as he stood behind the president.

A judge quoted his wife while blasting the felon.

A federal judge invoked his wife in issuing another scathing ruling against President Trump’s second-term agenda Tuesday, this time concerning efforts to deport students who participated in pro-Palestinian advocacy.

“He seems to be winning. He ignores everything and keeps bullying ahead,” U.S. District Judge William Young’s wife said.

The judge wrote that he doesn’t discuss pending cases with his wife, and she made the comment in a different context. Still, Young over several pages detailed why he agreed, saying the quote “perfectly captures” Trump’s public persona.

“The Constitution, our civil laws, regulations, mores, customs, practices, courtesies — all of it; the President simply ignores it all when he takes it into his head to act,” Young wrote.

Respecting one’s wife? Nah, there’s no way the felon’s going to be able to process that.

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson warned Fox News viewers that Democrats would likely attempt to impeach President Donald Trump if they reclaim Congress in the 2026 midterms, as he seeks to blame his opposing party for the government shutdown.

Shortly before the parties’ bitter battle over funding led to a shutdown on Tuesday, Johnson told Fox News host Laura Ingraham that he was confident Republicans could maintain control of the House of Representatives in the midterms.

“We’re going to win the midterms, absolutely,” Johnson confidently stated, despite Democrats blaming Republicans for refusing to negotiate with them on terms of a now-failed temporary funding bill, called a continuing resolution.

“We’re going to have a big victory and I think we can expand that majority so we can keep going. We have to give President Trump four years and not two,” Johnson said.

The speaker of the House then warned, “Imagine if the Democrats took over the House? They’d impeach [Trump].”

An immigration judge on Wednesday denied a motion filed by Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s attorneys to reopen his immigration case, according to a copy of the decision obtained by ABC News.

In the emergency motion filed in August to reopen the case, attorneys for the wrongly deported Abrego Garcia argued that because he was deported to El Salvador and then brought back to the United States, he is now eligible to apply for asylum within one year of his last entry into the U.S.

But in the order filed on Wednesday, Regional Deputy Chief Immigration Judge Philip Taylor said that Abrego Garcia’s motion to reopen his motion to seek asylum is “untimely” because he filed the motion nearly six years after his immigration proceedings – beyond the 90-day deadline required.

Judge Taylor also concluded there is “insufficient evidence” that the Department of Homeland Security has decided to remove Abrego Garcia to Uganda, Eswatini, or any other third country, after the DHS sent Abrego Garcia’s attorneys a notice in August saying the agency may deport their client to Uganda.

“The word ‘may’ is permissive and indicates to the Court that in sending this notification to Respondent’s counsel, the Department sought to convey that it reserved the right to remove him to Uganda, not necessarily that it intended to do so, that it had decided to do so, or that it would do so imminently,” Judge Taylor said.

The immigration judge also said that evidence Abrego Garcia provided in his motion arguing for protection due to his fear that he will be tortured or killed by the Salvadoran government because he’s been labeled an MS-13 gang member is “insufficient.”
