The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues

So, another Nazi.

The two statements he made are at complete odds with each other. And he is going to be in charge of Communication. UhHu.

How likely is it that he will (1) actually attempt this, and/or (2) succeed?

Trump confirms plans to use military for mass deportations

https://www.axios.com/2024/11/18/trump-mass-deportations-military-national-emergency

President-elect Trump](https://www.axios.com/politics-policy/donald-trump) confirmed Monday > that he is planning to declare a national emergency and use the U.S. military to carry out mass deportations.

Why it matters: Trump made his promise to deport millions of undocumented immigrants one of the cornerstones of his 2024 campaign, and his team has already begun strategizing how to carry its plan out.

  • A Truth Social post early Monday is the first time the president-elect has confirmed how his administration will execute the controversial plan.

This seems like a really good way to end up with American soldiers firing at American citizens on American soil. :+1:

Oh dear, Trump’s pick for SecDef, Hegseth…

No wonder Trump likes him.

  1. Yes, he will attempt this; Trump always lies about his history, his wealth, his accomplishments, and his frauds, but he generally tells the truth about his intentions.
  2. No, they will not succeed in rounding up and deporting 11 million immigrants in short order because:
      • The US active duty, reserve, and National Guard components of the military are not constituted for this kind of mass police action; they lack the resources, facilities, T/O/E, and training for this kind of 'police action'.
      • 11 million *undocumented* immigrants are going to be more difficult to find and round up than Trump et al imagine.
      • Arresting, processing, interning, and transporting that sheer mass of humans in a short timeframe without anything like the necessary physical, legal, or bureaucratic infrastructure is essentially impossible, notwithstanding of what nation would be willing to accept millions of internees with no resources or means of support.

Which is not to say that Trump will not do a lot of damage, harm many people and communities, and commit literal crimes against humanity in the attempt, as well as enable radical far-right ‘militias’ to self-deputize in order to ‘help’, as well as many ‘red state’ law enforcement agencies willingly volunteering to show just how Trumpy-compliant they can be because The Lord (and by this, I mean the Godhead of American Fascism Donald Trump) loves a supplicant as long as they’re doing something that he wants.

  • This probably sums up a lot of what we can expect for the next four years. Most of what Trump wants to do will fail, probably through a mixture of wanting to do things that are impossible and putting the worst people in charge who will screw up things that should be possible. But he’ll do a lot of damage just in the attempts, so it’s still not going to be good.

I’m pretty sure those are assets for him. Susan Collins can make a big kabuki show of struggling with her conscience before inevitably voting to confirm him anyway.

Despite the Project 2025 plans, these people don’t really seem to understand how to execute on these desires, and their initial plans seem to be to drive off all of the civil servants who know how to make the apparatus of government bureaucracy turn, but I won’t completely discount them, nor that someone with greater competence with a malevolent agenda will slide in and take advantage of the power/competency vacuum. If Trump were smart, he’d build up anticipation and recruit people into Customs and Border Protection or create a new agency under Department of Homeland Security specifically for this effort instead of trying to use the military and all of the logistical, staffing, and legal (for what those are still worth) hurdles that comes with it. Trump, of course, is not smart but there are people out there who do understand how to do this.

Considering this is a vacancy on the R side and at best they have a slim majority even after January 3rd, that’s a bold move Cotton. Not that Gaetz has ever been accused of overthinking the results of his choices.

I’m not sure if her brow will survive the battle.

Susan Collins is very practiced at appearing to be the appropriate level of “concerned”:

I need more coffee . . . cause I read that wrong the first time.

    Proud Boys?

The “Proud Boys” (which still sounds like a Village People cover band to me) are 2021, walking around with empty plate carriers and AR-15 clones bedazzled with so much M-LOK that that you could mount enough weapon lights, red dot sites, and thermal scopes to for an entire platoon. The ‘serious’ militia guys now are ‘Threeper’-associated groups who have actually recruited a lot of combat veterans and active duty law enforcement.

I don’t think the US military is going to be as compliant to domestic “law enforcement duties” as Trump believes even if he fires every general and admiral who objects to violations of the *Posse Comitatus Act” until he finds compliant leadership. The military is quite diverse and likely to result in infighting and passive resistance even though it is a hierarchical power structure by design, and even when directed at a legitimate goal is not fast or flexible as a bulk force. It also has its own judiciary largely independent of the federal courts with lawyers who are actually strongly inculcated in their duty to defend the Constitution over political leadership.

If you decide to create this, I will join your kickstarter.

Since there is a lot of “end of days” scenerios being thrown out on this site, let me throw one out. Assuming Trump as Commander-in-Chief gives increasingly illegal and immoral orders to the military; is there any possibility of a coup that would install President Vance?
After Jan 6th, I don’t think that is a stupid question since anything is possible.

I would characterize that as “Out of the frying basket and into the fryer”.

I can’t imagine anyone crossing the line of staging a military coup just to put Vance in the big chair. You could do that with just a sniper, if that’s what you wanted to accomplish.

I feel like, if you’re going Full Coup, you might as well make it count, and establish a whole New American Order on things.

How about a whole New World Order!

Silly, he doesn’t have to find any “undocumented immigrants!” He just has to find some inconveniently located, inappropriately pigmented, powerless people and declare them to be illegal. Shooting fish in a barrel comes to mind.
