Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth fired Adm. Lisa Franchetti, the Navy’s first female chief, last week without any clear explanation – part of a purge of top uniformed leadership that included the Joint Chiefs chairman, who is Black, and sent shock waves across the military.
Franchetti’s firing has left the military without a single woman in a four-star general or admiral leadership position, as women in top positions are already a rarity across the services, and many female officers say that they’re concerned that the ouster will have far-reaching consequences.
*That’s my new collective noun for this mal/mis/dis/antiadministration.
Trump has said tariffs will definitely go into effect on Canada and Mexico tomorrow.
As I write this, Dow is down 1.8%, S&P 2.09% and the NASDAQ 2.99%
And it really pisses me off that all the automakers are falling all over themselves to placate the bastard. They know this ends badly for everyone, but they’re afraid to say anything.
It’s one thing for the administration to spin Ukraine, DOGE, etc. After all, most of the cult followers won’t feel directly affected. But spinning the economic fallout from tariffs? I wonder how that’s going to go.
The head of the FBI’s New York office has retired, an email from the outgoing official showed on Monday, weeks after he pushed back on a request by President Donald Trump’s administration to provide a list of agents who worked on the investigation into the January 6
You might have thought that, with 45/47 firmly believing that tariffs are paid by the exporter, that applying tariffs on US agriculture exports, mainly soyabeans to feed China’s pigs, that this cost would be borne by US producers. Maybe economics and markets only have unidirectional effects.
He could impose the same effect by reducing the US Farm Bill and Export Enhancement Program. That’d be a bonus for the other food-exporting countries.
I surmise his advisors thinking on this move, is that with exporting their produce far less attractive, US producers will in response move their excess production into the domestic market, particularly the feed prices for secondary agriculture (broilers, layers, hogs, feedlots) and reduce the price of food.
His supporters might stereotypically appreciate the reduced prices and increased availability of soya and grits. Not going to do much to improve the economy of the corn belt.
“Isn’t that a beautiful signature?” LOL This video shows Starmer giving Trump the letter from King Charles. I guess Trump needed glasses to see the words or maybe he really can’t read but this would be so humiliating for a normal person. Trump is too stupid to care. “You want to read the important part?”
