I groomed, saddled and rode my horse after cracking an elbow in a fall (no, not off him, walking too fast and tripping onto asphalt) starting a couple of days after I got treated, with the arm in a sling. Saddling with one hand (and a small assist from the sling side, ouch) wasn’t easy, but I was going to do it anyway. Come to think of it, after falling I drove home in considerable pain and only called a friend to take me to the ER when I arrived. Fortunately it was my left elbow.
