The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues

Trump sez a woman is a thing that can have babies under certain circumstances and has been treated badly, and doesn’t give a man a chance of success.

Circumstances?

Like parthogenesis? That’d be pretty sweet, actually.

His second definition sounds like he’s channeling Gertrude Stein.

The funny thing is, this is probably (except for the Nazi part) word-for-word what MAGA used to say about Biden. A lie then, truth now.

A couple more law firms that are in Trump’s crosshairs (for The Most Dubious of Reasons) are fighting back:

Two more law firms targeted by Trump sue to block punishing executive orders: Jenner & Block and WilmerHale are now the second and third firms to fight Trump in court (Politico).

Trump targeted both firms with executive orders earlier this week. The Jenner order focused on the role that a former member of the firm — Andrew Weissmann — played in the investigation of Trump’s links to Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign. Weissmann, who has not worked at Jenner & Block since 2021, has been a vocal Trump critic and a prominent legal analyst on MSNBC during Trump’s multiple criminal cases. The Russia investigation eventually was helmed by special counsel Robert Mueller, who previously worked at WilmerHale. Trump targeted that firm with an order signed Thursday evening.

“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”

–John Stuart Mill (maybe, probably)*

Godspeed, Counselors.

*The Mill quote appears to have been:

Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing.

“Every accusation is a confession” is something people have long noted about the Right.

I can see Musk seething with jealousy

This “clusterfuck” is pushing their fascist agenda much faster, might I say more efficient, than anyone predicted.

If anyone is still wondering what they would have done in 1930’s Germany: wonder no more. Just tell us what you did today to throw a spoke im the fascist machinery.
(And realize that the Germans didn’t have the benefit of hindsight)

Maybe we should stop calling the existential threat to Western civilization names as if they are not super effectively speedrunning us all to WWIII?
There is nothing clusterfucky about the way they are systematically stripping your rights, your entitlements.

The clusterfuck is how fucking apathetic Americans are.

And unfortunately it has turned into a toothless accusation without consequence. it means absolutely nothing to them.

To paraphrase: Those that would ignore history are doomed to repeat it, but those that would deliberately hide history are the true villains.

This is silly, as it implies I’d be exactly the same person then as now. Catchy, but no.

A friend on Facebook posted something similar a month and a half ago, and my answer was, “Sitting in Austria, wondering if they’re really serious about annexing us.”

Adam Kinzinger’s security clearance (which he didn’t have) has now been revoked for the fourth time in two months.

I’m starting to think they just dangle this in front of Trump like a jingling key ring every time he starts getting distracted.

Change Austria to Canada and you might be on to something.

Band performing at the Kennedy Center brings onstage the cast of a musical Trump cancelled and has them sing a song from the show.

No, I said Americans now have the benefit of hindsight. They know where this path leads.
Germans didn’t have examples of powerful industrialized nations sliding into authoritarian rule.

Also, they weren’t re-electing Hitler.

I believe I once started a thread here asking folk how reliable their work “tech” was, because I had it on good authority that SSA’s was pretty consistently unreliable. Maintenance and upgrades being done during working hours, routine outages of the most basic functions, seemingly interminable upgrades of operating systems… I’m not sure how many years it has been that one component has been required to “double enter” every activity in 2 different case management systems, because - reasons. Also for - reasons, some cases are still designated as “paper” files.

It would be difficult to overstate the magnitude and complexity of this project, or the hubris of someone thinking it could be taken on lightly and accomplished quickly without significant disruption.

All I can say is - good luck with this - both with doing it quickly and economically!

Oh they’ll get it done quickly. That’s the easy part.

Those assholes all buy into the “break it fast” school of software development.

The hard part - the part they absolutely don’t care about and will inevitably screw up - is doing it in a way that doesn’t regularly screw up payments for hundreds to millions nearly every time they commit some change to the code, invariably requiring an increasingly complex set of hastily applied patches. Or the inevitable set of massive security holes, putting both payments and private information for tens of millions at risk.

On the schadenfreude side of things, I would love to see somebody require printouts of all this code they’re to write.
