The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues

Thus, the rest of that paragraph.

So no, then.

Didn’t we do this “the president is going to declare a national emergency and cancel the election!” routine in 2020? And 2008? And 2004?

Oh, right, this time is different, because Trump said he means it, and everything Trump says always comes to pass, which is why Hillary Clinton is in jail, NBC was shut down eight years ago, and the statue of Antonin Scalia is DC’s biggest tourist attraction.

You’re getting as tiresome and tedious as you are boring.

Still …

January 6th.

Now you go.

ETA: I’m beginning to think that what’s truly possible – if not likely – exceeds your ability to stomach it; therefore, what we’re seeing from you is a heady brew of projection and denial.

Understandable, but … again … tiresome.

Trump serving a third term isn’t possible. He’s not likely to even be alive four years from now.

If you find it easier to argue against what you wish others had said than to argue against what they actually did say, then … I guess I can’t stop you.

But the straw man stuff reflects pretty poorly on you.

In fact, he is statistically more likely to be alive in four years than not. The chances are about 60 (alive) to 40 (not alive). It is possible that he will be dead, yes, but it is by no means sure. Sorry.

Another thing he has going for him… he hasn’t wasted any of his finite energy exercising.

For an average man his age. The average man his age isn’t an obese drug addict who lives off junk food, never exercises, has dementia and long covid, and is ostensibly in charge of an entire country.

Unfortunately, it is possible.

Assume Vance is elected president in 2028, with anybody but Trump as his running mate. Also assume that the Pubs, after the election, control both the House and Senate. The VP, whoever it is, resigns. Vance chooses Trump as the replacement VP. The House and Senate vote to confirm him. Then Vance resigns, and Trump becomes president.

That scenario ignores the 25th Amendment. If he is willing to do that, he doesn’t need an elaborate scheme. Just crown himself and be done with it.

12th amendment; “But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.”

Up thread it was mentioned that the 12th amendment states that if they are not eligible to be elected president they are also not eligible to be vice president. C. 1804 IIRC.

You seem to think that DumbDonald and his Congress actually respect and will abide by our Constitution.

I think they would love to abolish it and are actively looking for ways to do just that.

Yeah, something, something what the Constitution says about who controls spending.
Hint: It is not DOGE.

Well, the 22nd amendment prevents him from being elected president for a third time. It could be argued that doesn’t make him ineligible to hold the office again.

But I won’t belabor the point. And hopefully we won’t ever have to find out.

An interesting take on the subject – a pretty quick read:

(Politico) How Trump Could Snatch a Third Term — Despite the 22nd Amendment: Four ways Trump could stay in power beyond 2028

If somebody thinks that the Alternate Slate of Electors scheme wasn’t a carefully constructed effort to do an end run around the Constitution, then I truly don’t know how to get through to them.

The four methods the article proposes are as such;

#1 is impossible. #2 is based on a misreading of the Constitution and runs afoul of the 12th amendment as stated above. #3 is also based on a misunderstanding of how elections work, because it wouldn’t be the Supreme Court’s call - elections are run at the state level. #4 would constitute an illegal coup and as such cannot be considered a way that he could “legally” serve another term.

The 12th Amendment is not included in the ShitGibbon Bible (which stops at 10A), so it is irrelevant.
What is relevant is whether the Rs can do a proper job of destroying the country. If they carry it off right, the people will be essentially powerless to counter him. The modern Rs carrying something off right, though, lacks historical precedent.
