The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues

As we know Constitution Man:trade_mark: will swoop in, kick ass, take names, and fix everything.

You know, if you want Trump to become an extraconstitutional dictator-for-life, convincing people that the Constitution is dead and powerless and that he can already do whatever he wants without opposition is a good way to get people to stop fighting him.

No, only MAGAtrash actually want that.
Close to 90 million “Americans” don’t give a damn.

Sometimes I wonder what will happen that will teach the American people at large, a lesson

With the number of people around here saying “He can totally do it and it would be so easy and there’s absolutely nothing anyone can do to stop him”, I wonder about that.

Everyone: look at all the ways in which the Constitution and the rule of law are being violated.
Smapti: You must not speculate about what comes next. That’s what gives him his power. As long as you pretend that it’s not going to get worse, that the trends will not continue, that the resistance is active and the courts and checks and balances robust, we can defeat Trump and Trumpism!

Anyway, respectfully disagree.

If Congress or the Supremes won’t stop him, who will?

As a Canadian I absolutely don’t and I am truly worried about what he’ll do to us and to the west.

If no GOP will do their damn jobs (and with each increasingly disgraceful act of Trump’s the GOP keeps failing to do so), and with Trump owning the DOJ and with the inspectors general sacked and with a stacked, biased SCOTUS, then I would love to hear how this will all work out, in favour of democracy and the post-WW II world order.

I’m all ears because, contrary to the World Pollyanna Association (WPA), I think and fear that we’re all in deep shit

When did I ever say “pretend that nothing is going to get worse”? I said that we can’t win if we don’t fight. Sarcastically proclaiming “oh like the Constitution is gonna stop him” isn’t fighting, it’s nihilistic surrender and advance compliance disguised as pretending to be some kind of bold truth-teller.

If you want to stop Trump you’re not going to do it by giving up or telling people that the tools at our disposal are useless. You stop him by never ceding an inch and fighting with every tool at our disposal. If you’re on the losing side of a campaign, you don’t go around telling people you’re going to lose - you keep looking for ways to win until the vote is certified. You don’t lead troops into battle by telling them they’re going to die and their sacrifice will accomplish nothing. And you don’t prevent an unconstitutional coup by declaring that the Constitution is powerless and the courts can’t do anything.

Us.

For must of “us,” the only weapon we have is our vote. There isn’t enough of “us.”

The trouble is, however, is that there wasn’t enough of us who voted Donald Trump the hell out of office for a 2nd term. Subsequently, that overgrown combination of a schoolyard bully and a spoiled brat received what he wanted–a 2nd term as POTUS.

You have the power to speak out and inform your neighbors abojt what’s going on. You have the power to assemble and protest. You have the power to vote with your wallet and hurt businesses that support the fascist. You have the power to make Elon Musk miserable every day of his life. You have the power to donate to the ACLU and other groups that will make sure the courts hold Trump and his cronies accountable to the law.

This defeatist “well shucks there’s nothing else we can do” rhetoric is why Democrats are at an all-time low in the polls right now. Don’t be a Schumer. Be an AOC.

Congress and the Supremes. What an intoxicating band name.

They need a good drummer and a stormy sax player to musically accompany all of the chaos blowin’ around us.

And a couple of moving tunes with motivating lyrics.

Dear SDMB Broken Record,

Sincerely,
DnR

The 12th amendment makes him ineligible to be vice president, without which Vance can’t resign and devolve the presidency to him.

Sometimes. On the other hand, when people are relying on tools that are pretty clearly useless, but that they think will work fine, you do need to get them to see reality before they’ll start brainstorming about other tools.

No, it’s acknowledging the reality. “The Constitution” won’t stop anything. It’s people acting on the Constitution that could possibly stop him.

The problem is, as we’ve pointed out, the people with the legal power to enforce the Constitution have decided not to do that.

Average people in the street can’t enforce constitutional norms. At best, they can decide to storm the legislature and hang the traitors. Let me know when you’re ready to do that.

Sorry about the lack of quoting in this post, but I’m responding to a couple of issues which more than one poster has raised above.

  1. Constitution. Yeah, right. He’s already tried to maintain power unconstitutionally. I realize there’s a daily slew of inanity, illegality, and incompetence coming from the current administration, but let’s not forget the real geginning of the right out in the open attempt at chucking the constitution by the wayside: January 6, 2021. Remember Trump believes it was the Deep State/Biden/Clinton/Obama/BLM etc. who mistreated “peaceful protestors” on that date. He will use the loyalists he has in the Deep State he and Musk have created to avenge his minions who were prosecuted. And you already know who his targets will be.
  2. Elections and hypocrisy. I can see Trump issuing an executive order declaring a state of emergency which requires the suspension of each provision of the constitution as he determines necessary. And the current congress and supreme court will uphold that. Then he will just ignore the fact he was whining about Zelenskyy remaining in office past his end of term date even though Ukraine’s constitution requires that during wartime.
  3. DOGE. Let’s face it. We now have two administrations running the country and they do not always communicate with each other. Seriously, has Musk ever backed down or is it the other way around when there has been open conflict in their actions? Musk will be designated a special permanent federal employee and will be immune to control by whatever future administration there may be. Right now, there are two and only two federal employees guaranteed their jobs: Trump and Musk.

People you are actively attempting to discourage by telling them that the courts won’t do anything and Trump won’t listen to them.

Tell that to the people of Seoul.

Many of us here use alternative names because we are just so fucking tired of hearing/seeing his name over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over …
