I’m waiting for her to awarded some posthumous honor, have a street named after her or something.
I’m curious as to what portion of Republican voters support this settlement. Do Republicans in general now believe 1/6 was “a good thing”? I would HOPE that such support would only come from the MAGA crazy portion, and that the majority would have somehow blocked it out somehow. If nearly 1/2 of American voters have accepted that it was just a bunch of peaceful tourists, we truly are fucked.
Asked whether he might authorize restitution payments to Jan. 6 defendants because they had lost wages and other opportunities while they were being prosecuted, Mr. Trump said “there’s a lot of talk about that,” adding that “people in government really liked that group of people.”
“They were patriots as far as I was concerned,” Mr. Trump said. “I talk about them a lot. They were treated very unfairly.”
While the suit has not yet been filed, it could result in a settlement agreement not unlike the one reached between the Justice Department and Ms. Babbitt’s family.
I see this said a lot, but as mentioned, the S&P 500 has a market cap of $50 trillion. That’s just the 500 largest public companies. The 100 richest people in the world are worth, collectively, about $10 trillion.
So while yes, the rich can probably get richer, they just don’t have the money to “buy it all” And remember- much of their wealth will be in equities and companies, so in order to access that wealth they would have to sell some of their own holdings (buy borrow die works when you’re spending 1% of your wealth, it doesn’t work when you want to spend 50%)
What they can do to really infuriate non-MAGAs is to name the “Black Lives Matter” plaza in DC after Ashli Babbitt. There may be a name vacancy currently. Put a mural of Trump and Babbitt’s faces there to twist the knife in democracy’s back.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The nation’s capital city will remove the large painting of the words “Black Lives Matter” on a street one block from the White House as Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser struggles to fend off threats of encroachment from both President Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress.
I think that the “MAGA crazy portion” are the majority of Republicans, and have been for many years. It’s just that with Trump they’ve finally shoved aside the Old Guard that originally recruited them and fully taken over.
I’m not sure of that. Would be interested in seeing any data.
My impression (hope?) is that a good 50-60% of folk who voted for Trump did so out of self interest or single issues, and are willing to somehow ignore/approve so much Trumpness because they perceive themselves as personally benefitting from what is happening under him. Of course I am NOT saying that that makes them “good” people.
Silly anecdata that really proves nothing - some 40-45% of my city of 50k voted from Trump. But I can count the # of Trump banners I see flying on one hand. Not those 5 households - you KNOW they are freaking nuts. The rest of them likely include a ton of full bore crazies. But I’d suspect just a bunch of selfishness, intolerance and other nastiness.
White trashionalist, domestic terrorism is now publicly funded? Wonderful. And these funds just magically appear without any consent from Congress? Super duper.
It might come as news but folks who post here are unusually well informed. Most people aren’t. Many think what’s going on is the normal ‘politics as usual’ BS and there’s nothing out of the ordinary and that there’s nothing too unusual going on.
Many are starting to realize this isn’t the case, but there’s still a disconnect between the true depth of depravity and what the average person thinks is happening.
ETA: Not that I’m excusing such behavior, but oblivious and stupid describes most people no matter the place or historic era. “Bread and circuses” has been around a looooong time
Yes, it seems to me that if you sue the country for 30 million and get the man calling the shots at the Department of Justice to give the order to settle for 5 million Congress can’t do anyything about it. Clever, innit? And probably even legal, though IANAL.
Just like Meta and other corporations settling for 20-30 million to close cases that they had won against trump does not count as corruption, it seems. I mean, to be clear, 20-30 million the corporations are paying trump, who had lost the cases but threatened to appeal the lost cases again. And again. And again. I think the arse-mouth is enjoying himself.
“Who was operating the autopen? This is a very serious thing,” he continued. “We had a president that didn’t sign anything. He autopenned almost anything. He opened the borders of the United States of America.”
