The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues

Yeah, at this point, any visual evidence will be immediately dismissed as a deepfake or AI-generated.

Very likely. Just one more way Trump has corroded, even endangered, American democracy: hard truths can be instantly rejected as “fake news.”

Another way is how he’s gotten his minions, both in political office and the magaflatearther on the street, to proudly proclaim the United States of America is not a democracy.

Big Baby might need Big Daddy’s help to rescue American astronauts.

The felon’s still gunning for the DoE.

I should note that if in the space of five months, you need to request relief from court orders for your behavior, maybe, just maybe, your behavior is a problem.

Speaking of problematic behavior, let’s have the National Guard go on a hunt for unaccompanied children, round them up, and ship them to parts uknown.

Cadet Bonespurs sure does love throwing the military around, doesn’t he? And his flunky Pete wants to send in the Marines.

Here’s a fun read about the legality of the felon federalizing the California National Guard.

&

Besides the illegality of this stunt, it also shows that the felon-in-chief very well could have called out the Washington DC National Guard at any damn time he wanted to way back on January 6, 2021.

Of course the driving force behind this executive order is Biden and Obama issued orders which this one modifies.

Note also the fact sheet is not factual.

The felonials are feuding with the mayor of Los Angeles now (again? still?)

&

Gorka’s main boss is a criminal. I wonder why he doesn’t remember that.

Harvard vs Trump, Harvard in the lead

“But her emails!” Yeah, right. (The bolding is mine.)

I don’t know how I missed this one. The felon’s sending Navy ships into the southern border mission.

&

These vessels are not designed for the job they’re sent to do. This is just throwing the miltiary around to show bonespurs can.

The felon still has a stiff mushroom against Abrego Garcia.

Wow. This is a whole litany of problematic issues.

Improper influence.
Lack of command clarity.
Lack of designated responsibility.
Unsubstantiated accusations.

Screw it, I don’t have time to type it all.

I’m going to assume that doing so in any state would be covered by the Posse Comitatus Act. If there was some mechanism for “federalizing the National Guard” then it certainly would.

(I believe the National Guard were called on in VietNam and Iraq yet Posse Comitatus limits what Federal Troops may do domestically)

Tin soldiers and Nixon coming
We’re finally on our own

Oh course it was Ohio’s Governor Rhodes who called in the National Guard at Kent State. I’ll grant ol’ Neil some poetic license and who knows what Nixon may eventually have tried to see if he could do.

Well, what do I know?

We’re in the “New Normal Fascist Frontier”

We’ve discussed it before and there’s probably no definitive prediction to be had, but I have to think that it won’t be too long before soldiers become overwhelmed by “riot control fatigue.”

Except for the small number of psychopaths who enjoy thumping the heads of their fellow citizens, it must be emotionally taxing to battle with everyday Americans and face a loss of prestige, respect and confidence because you are charged with defending heinous policies.

I’m also worried about the frequently voiced concerns that Shitgibbon will use the protests to seize ever more emergency powers.

I hope this is ‘just’ because of the Shitgibbon’s parade: Tanks being shipped into DC.

It’s from AP and posted on Youtube

Once the President invokes the Insurrection Act, he becomes a dictator until public pressure forces him to stand down, but he has probably the same solid 40% of white Christian nationalists cheering him on the way that a sold out arena cheers Steve Austin to do a “Stone Cold Stunner.”

The last time the National Guard was federalized against the wishes of the governor was 1965.

On Sunday, the president said that masks would no longer be allowed to be worn at protests.

Does this also apply to police, soldiers, and ICE agents?

Anecdatum: my right-wing relatives are cheering him on.

Friend-of-relative’s post: “Crush it hard, fast and continuous! The Democrat leadership called for this, hold them accountable with federal charges if necessary!”

Different-friend-of-same-relative’s post: “Absolutely!! Lock em all up. This is what I voted for!! :united_states::united_states::united_states:

It’s been done in L.A. before:

1992 Los Angeles riots

Day 4 – Saturday, May 2

[edit source]

On the fourth day, 3,500 federal troops – 2,000 soldiers of the 7th Infantry Division from Fort Ord and 1,500 Marines of the 1st Marine Division from Camp Pendleton – arrived to reinforce the National Guard soldiers already in the city. The Marine Corps contingent included the 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion, commanded by John F. Kelly. It was the first significant military occupation of Los Angeles by federal troops since the 1894 Pullman Strike,[118] and also the first federal military intervention in an American city to quell a civil disorder since the 1968 King assassination riots, and the deadliest modern unrest since the 1980 Miami riots at the time, only 12 years earlier.[citation needed]

These federal military forces took 24 hours to deploy to Huntington Park, about the same time it took for the National Guard.[citation needed] This brought total troop strength to 13,500, making LA the largest military occupation of any US city since the 1968 Washington, D.C. riots. Federal troops joined National Guard soldiers to support local police in restoring order directly; the combined force contributed significantly to preventing violence.[citation needed] With most of the violence under control, 30,000 people attended an 11 a.m. peace rally in Koreatown to support local merchants and racial healing.[94]

AIUI, the Marines aren’t allowed to act as law enforcement. I’m not sure this admin cares. I can see Trump telling Hegseth to order the troops to start bashing heads and “shooting protesters in the leg”.

Yeah, that would be a fairly common sight on my Facebook feed if I still had an account today.

At the heart of MAGA ideology is nativism. They’re not misspeaking when they type or say the word invaders to refer to the migrants. They really believe that, never mind the fact that probably 45-50% of US-based agricultural labor is undocumented workers.

Or that our family came over comparatively recently—our common ancestors were immigrants, and we grew up on stories of family that came over, engaged in criminal activity, and never learned English. Apparently it was all right for us! But as been said elsewhere, Republicans seem not to mind hypocrisy.

Exactly right. Copilot tells me that 45% of our agricultural labor is undocumented immigrants, while an astounding 86% of that workforce is foreign-born.

And interestingly, it is the rural areas, who could not survive without the foreign born, who overwhelmingly voted for trump.
In Germany, OTOH, it is the former Eastern Germany, aka the communist one, where almost no foreigners live or ever want to go, who vote for the fascist AfD.
Stupidity, ignorance and bigottry do not make sense. And you can’t argue people out of stupid. Ignorance, OTOH, well… perhaps you can, but it takes a long time.

One recent estimate put it at something like 47-49% but I won’t go to the mat on statistics. It’s the same ballpark figure.

It seems that there’s been pushback from farmers on going after their undocumented labor, but I have to think that at some point, some of these workers are going to freak out at the thought of ending up in one of these detention centers, which, as I understand it, is not a pleasant experience. I’m sure that no prison or jail is pleasant but I’ve heard and read over the years that these are particularly harsh.

Would have to think that they’ll probably bolt at some point, during a time when we’re imposing significant tariffs on imported goods no less.

Certainly longer than we thought.
