Still, he’s seen other parades, which is where he got the idea. This one is really, really boring. Where’s the pageantry? Where’s the flair? Kim Jong Un must be laughing his ass off.
Years ago, my father introduced me to a nifty bit of Army slang. A number of retirees would put all their certificates and awards on one dedicated wall in their home. That wall was thus the “I love me” wall. The felon now has an “I love me” parade.
I just flipped over to Faux. They are of course covering it till the bitter end. Right now some singer who has not aged well is singing, while Trump and his toadies stand on a stage looking incredibly bored.
Actually, he did attend a military high school and, from reports, excelled in things like marching. And they had spiffier uniforms than camo and OD green. That was 60-some years ago, but likely he remembers that better than lots of newer things.
As far as proper marching, only a very small percentage of military people actually march at all after basic training or academy/officer training. So it’s not surprising they aren’t very good at it.
The Meidas Touch vid in this thread, posted above by @dasmoocher and about 13 minutes long, is the first thing I’ve watched of him for, well, a really long time. I watched every minute and his misery was excellent to behold. Loved Gavin Newsom’s press office troll work, too.
If you look at this page, you get the perade and all the NK events listed together, which is the most pleasing way to look at the day. You have to scroll down a ways to find the video, which has a few shots where you can get an idea what the civilian attendance was. To me, it looks likely that there were at least 8~10k – not “nobody showed up”, but probably not what he was hoping for. The shots that show the soldiers faces show a lot of troops who probably did not want to be there.
