Nah, I’m Canadian, I don’t think Soros has translated the memo into French to meet local regulations.
Is it negotiable? Like, I don’t think $100 to fake participation in a protest is good value - can I ask for more? I’ll have to buy water and sunscreen and maybe get new walking shoes. Are expenses covered?
The memes and reels are starting to show up about the parade…a lot of them comparing “what Trump wanted (North Korea, France) vs what he got”. The parade nobody wanted (except him) turned out to be the best of all possible outcomes: ridiculous. Humiliating. A laughing-stock.
By the way does anyone actually have any reliable estimates of how many people attended the parade? Most new sources say something like “Much less than the 200,000 anticipated”. But that could be 20,000 or it could be 100,000.
I know MeidasTouch says under 10,000 but I don’t trust their numbers. They are fun to watch but they tend to spin images and narratives quite a bit left of the truth. For example it looks to me in that 90 seconds more like he was falling asleep than crying.
It really looks to me like he is falling asleep. He jerks his head up once in a while and is obviously not paying attention to that incredibly boring narration. He’s so bored and miserable that he can’t even summon up the energy to pretend to be enjoying it. Sad.
I’m vaguely recalling something similar during his first administration, pretty much dozing off while attending a public function – Bush the Elder’s funeral maybe?
Something my daughter shared with me (sorry, I can’t seem to link to the original):
Former army here. It takes about a week of drill in basic to learn how to march. Once you do, it’s ingrained in you for life. You know how to self-correct if you fall out of step. And if there isn’t a commanding officer leading the march, there’s a designated point person within the ranks to call out a “left-right-left” if they notice disorder in the cadence. So this clusterfuck of a parade leaves me with only one conclusion: this was a silent protest. A Foxtrot-Delta-Tango*, if you will.
* I have to guess this translates to “Fuck Donald Trump.”
Y’know, Trump supposedly got the idea from being at a Bastille Day event back in his first term. But you can’t manufacture style on command overnight. France has been doing that since 1880. And Russia/USSR since the Revolution in one way or another (Revolution Day, May Day, Victory Day).
