Denmark is too smart to take over the US. They don’t need that kind of headache.
The problem is that this actually makes war with Denmark* more likely as there won’t be anyone there to point out the reasons that is would be a really really stupid idea that will be a disaster for American interests.
*Or maybe Iceland depending on whether enough expertise remains in the department to figure out who actually owns Greenland.

I’d rather have a go at balkinization. Give up the US Federal government as a failure, and make the 50 states individual countries of their own. That makes the balance of power in North America much more balanced.

Where I live now, I would go for that. But really, Canada should get California because the Pacific Coast goes together. I know Mexico has historic claims, but I’d still like the keep the Left Coast together.
Maybe cut it in half north and south? The top half goes to Canada and the bottom half to Mexico?

Slashing Greenland’s social services so the budget can go to Trump instead. It’s not hard for a leader to personally profit from conquest, since the costs are all being offloaded onto other people.

Greenland is a large, though low population country. It’s small but vocal population are calling for independence from Denmark, although (and I am no way an expert) I forsee Greenland becoming more likely semi-independent as was the Isle of Manx in the UK’s ambit. They are already most of the way there, they are self ruling, etc.
Still very much relying on the “mother country” but de facto independent.
Stupid Trump doesn’t have an “in” in that deal.
In Basic Training, soldiers are taught over and over that 1. Their loyalty is to the constitution and the country first, and the president second, and 2. They are allowed to refuse unlawful / unconstitutional orders. So MAYBE there’s a glimmer of hope. Also idk how well an order to invade Canada, one of the US’s closest allies, would go down with the army and the public…

I don’t think so. All Vice President Trump needs to do is fire the generals and admirals, and promote the colonels and captains, until he has stuffed Military Command with compliant yes-men. SCROTUS ‘interprets’ the orders as being entirely Constitutional. And besides, POTUS is the Commander in Chief, and as POTUS it has already been decided that anything he does is, by definition, lawful.
My prediction, in this hypothetical, is that Trump gets bamboozled by whoever kisses his ass the right way and basically cons him into giving them a ridiculous deal, and he ends up getting screwed over. Just because a person is a con artist, that doesn’t make them immune to other cons.

If so, basic has changed some since I was in. Which is no doubt true in any case.
But when I was in, they had an officer come in and explain that we shouldn’t obey illegal orders. After which the chief came in and explained that while the officer was well meaning and all, we as junior enlisted men (he was channeling his inner gunny Hartman here in profane and explicit terms, he didn’t actually call us junior enlisted men) would never get an illegal order, so shut up and do what you’re told. Then we did lots of push ups.
In other words, they mentioned it, but it wasn’t emphasized or taken very seriously. I am pretty sure that if the officers and senior enlisted give the “illegal” orders, the military will follow them. Our only hope there is the integrity of the senior officers and non-coms. Which Trump and Hegseth are busy undermining, and was always a weak reed in any case.
I think the millions would fall in line when their commanders and commanders’ commanders and the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the President of the United States, backed up by SCOTUS tell them the orders are legal. A dictator only needs to change the top, and the rest will follow.
