The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues

I don’t personally know anyone who has a ballroom, yet the Catherine Palace (Summer Palace) in Russia has one so big you could practically fit the White House inside it, The Nazi’s destroyed the place (and wholesale stole the Amber Room and nobody knows where that is so the Russians restored it about 11 years ago).

Wall Street is at all-time highs right now and not listening to some guy shouting from atop a box near the Wall Street Bull. The S&P started the year at about 6000 and fell to just below 5000, whether that was just earnings concerns, or political events it was successfully blamed on Biden and now it’s at 6500.

Wall Street has already “priced in” tariffs - including tariffs yet to come. October and the next earnings season might change things, yet don’t go short-selling the market just yet. A couple Tomahawk missiles aimed at “The Fed” buildings will get the rates cut like Trump wants. And they won’t mind an 85 year old president.

I swear I’m going to snap tonight. A summit is not our felon and Russia’s dictator meeting. That’s a meeting. A summit is three or more meeting. That, for some odd reason, seems to be a distinction lost to every news organization on the planet.

So half an inch, three-quarters at most.

I turned on my car radio out of boredom yesterday and happened to sort of hear, on the local college station, a thing about a couple who were facing persecution in the city for wearing their MAGA hats. So unfair, that they get shit on for proudly declaring “We’re AssHoles!” (I mean, something like 90% of people in the city dress normally, without political billboard on their persons, and those people are supposed to treat proudly obvious America-Hating Fucksticks as though they were just like everyone else?)

It’s pretty clear to most of us.

Nitpick: It is unclear whether the trump administration (and I use this term loosely) has any intention of respecting the law or not, but if the trump administration (see above) does have any intention of respecting the law, it is proving to be as incompetent at this as it is at its attempts at humor, kindness, tolerance, or respect for dissent. Or dancing, for that matter.
OK, I’ll find my way out alone. That way, right?

Heh, my Wife an I just moved. There is a very nice restaurant close that we love. But it’s not ‘snooty’ you can wear shorts sandals and a tee-shirt.

But - No Hats. None. Bummer because they have a very nice sunny patio.

My guess is someone came in with a MAGA hat, and it was not appreciated. So, they a made a rule. ‘No Hats’.

The place plays baby boomer music, but stuff like CSNY, the Beatles, Creedence. Stuff like that.

I haven’t seen this mentioned. Should save some money on the renovations. No tariffs on gold.

https://thehill.com/business/5446634-trump-announces-no-gold-tariffs/

I believe he forgot to specify gold paint / gilding / wrap, etc., so it looks like he’ll be paying the same for it anyway.

Surely you aren’t suggesting that anything other than 'merkin gold could be used to gild 45/47s imperial ballroom?

I didn’t want to hijack the thread this was in, and this is the latest, nearest, thread when I searched ‘tariffs’.

From the article:

People’s budgets will not “absorb” these tariffs. They are going to feel them.

They’re going to feel them at the coffee shop. They’re going to feel them at the grocery store. They’re going to feel them online when they buy clothes or shoes.

I’m sure we all heard that Lindt (chocolatier) sells a lot of chocolate in Canada, and that 50% of the chocolate going to Canada comes from U.S. plants. Lindt is changing the supply chain, so that the chocolate comes from European plants.

Last September, I bought a 12-pack of Lindt 95% cocoa dark chocolate bars for $35.88. I just checked, and the same item is now $47.88,

One linked article reports that:

The U.S. has collected an additional $55 billion in tariffs this year. Corporate America has largely shouldered the bill.

IMHO a lot of that money is coming from the “savings” made by corporations with the recent lay-offs seen, there is also “savings” with the massive slowdown in hiring that has taken place. In more normal times, I do think that more jobs would be available.

I guess prices can remain low, when there is less demand as there are no jobs. /s

Rumor is Big Donny is increasing the chocolate ration from 12 bars a month to 6 bars.
Double Plus MAGA!!!

The tariff rebate checks should be $159.
55 billion / 344 million.

Good on you, Guv!

WASHINGTON − California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom mocked President Donald Trump with an all-caps tweet amid a heated redistricting effort in Texas that could give Republicans up to five more seats in the U.S. House of Representatives next year.

Mimicking Trump’s all-caps social media style, Newsom trolled the president as “DONALD ‘TACO’ TRUMP,” and suggested California would soon go forward with its own redistricting effor to offset the Republican effort in Texas.

And here’s the hilarious tweet. (Same link.)

“DONALD ‘TACO’ TRUMP, AS MANY CALL HIM, ‘MISSED’ THE DEADLINE!!! CALIFORNIA WILL NOW DRAW NEW, MORE ‘BEAUTIFUL MAPS,’ THEY WILL BE HISTORIC AS THEY WILL END THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY (DEMS TAKE BACK THE HOUSE!). BIG PRESS CONFERENCE THIS WEEK WITH POWERFUL DEMS AND GAVIN NEWSOM — YOUR FAVORITE GOVERNOR — THAT WILL BE DEVASTATING FOR ‘MAGA.’ THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! — GN,” Newsom wrote on X, imitating Trump’s language in his Truth Social posts.

The felon found another way to screw up the Kennedy Center. (The bolding is mine; the tackiness is from your least favorite person.)

WASHINGTON (AP) — As the new chairman of the Kennedy Center, President Donald Trump added a highly personal stamp to this year’s announcement of the recipients of the annual honors, whom he named as country music star George Strait, “Rocky” actor Sylvester Stallone, singer Gloria Gaynor, the rock band Kiss and actor-singer Michael Crawford.

Instead of the Kennedy Center revealing the names through a press release as usual, Trump announced the honorees himself during a Wednesday press conference at the site, where he was flanked by American flags and photo stands for each of the entertainers that were initially covered by red drapes. Unlike in his first term, when he didn’t even attend the honors ceremony, he announced that he would be hosting it later this year and that he had been deeply involved with the selection process. He also suggested he might choose himself for a future award.

Red? What happened? *Tackytm from Acmer ran out of yellow thread?

Also: I will lose any respect I have for anyone who accepts an honor he grants during his dictatorship.

MARTIAL LAW DAILY REPORT

Federal authorities arrested 66 people in Washington, D.C. over the first two nights of President Donald Trump’s takeover of the city’s police force, a White House official tells TIME, adding that the nation’s capital can expect to see even more National Guard members across the city Wednesday evening.

Forty-three of those arrests occurred overnight on Tuesday, nearly double the amount of the previous night, as more federal agents and National Guard troops arrived in the city to patrol streets as part of Trump’s effort to crack down on crime, which has been falling in the city over the last two years.

&

More than 1,450 law enforcement officers and agents were involved in Tuesday night’s operation, about half of them from the city’s police department.

The National Guard’s role has so far been limited. Only about 30 troops were on D.C. streets Tuesday night, though officials say as many as 800 could eventually be mobilized to protect federal sites and assist in other non-arrest functions.

On Tuesday evening, a small group of Guard members in military vehicles appeared near the Washington Monument, where they were seen taking photos with visitors before departing two hours later. The White House official tells TIME that plans are underway for "a significantly higher National Guard presence” throughout the city on Wednesday night.

&

The White House official said that federal authorities have so far arrested 103 people in D.C. since the Administration started rolling out an increased law enforcement presence last Thursday, with 19 mixed-agency teams fanning out across neighborhoods to “promote public safety and arrest violent offenders,” the White House said. The operation has included agents from the F.B.I., the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Department of Homeland Security, working alongside local police.

In other parts of the city, federal agents were spotted conducting traffic stops and making arrests. Charges over the first two nights have included assault with a deadly weapon, homicide, drug possession with intent to distribute, unlawful entry, resisting arrest, lewd acts, stalking, reckless driving, and driving under the influence, the official said. Thirteen illegal firearms have been seized since Monday night.

Of course, he has to go low.

The White House has signaled that the crackdown will also focus on dismantling homeless encampments, with officials offering those affected access to services like substance abuse counseling but threatening fines or arrest for those who refuse to relocate.

This is hardly the dystopia the felon paints the capital of what used to be a free country. Actually, he’s trying to turn the capital city into a dystopia.

Yeah, but a toadying, obsequious, fawning, hagiographic sort of dystopia, no?

I just spun off the martial law in DC into its own The BBQ Pit thread because I believe that issue deserves its own focused discussion. It’s in The BBQ Pit because I also want people to not be hampered when they feel the need to vent about it.

If I could live long enough to see everyone of them looking through prison bars including all the ice agents, I could shuffle off this morta coil happy.

All that shit is woke man. /s

Another Biden order bites the dust.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday revoked a 2021 executive order on promoting competition in the U.S. economy issued by his predecessor Joe Biden, the White House said.

The move by Republican Trump further unwinds a signature initiative by Biden, a Democrat, to crack down on anti-competitive practices in sectors from agriculture to drugs and labor.

The Justice Department welcomed Trump’s revocation of the order, saying it was pursuing an “America First Antitrust” approach focused on free markets instead of what it called the “overly prescriptive and burdensome approach” of the Biden administration.

It said it was also making progress in streamlining the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act (HSR) review process of mergers and reinstating more frequent use of targeted and well-crafted consent decrees.

Biden signed a sweeping executive order in July 2021 to promote more competition in the U.S. economy as part of a broad push to rein in what his administration described as a pattern of corporate abuses, ranging from excessive airline fees to large mergers that raised costs for consumers.
