Trump made his pledge to send troops to Portland on Saturday morning. On Friday, Fox News had several segments in which purported violence in the city was shown.
One featured Tricia McLaughlin, a Homeland Security official who often appears on cable shows. As she was discussing an executive order Trump signed, the channel showed b-roll of events in Portland.

You will notice, though, that the footage was not timestamped for any date in September. Instead, they showed an encounter apparently involving tear gas that occurred back in June … andfootage from protests in July 2020.
In the next hour, they ran the same playbook. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich was on, talking about how dangerous the left was next to footage of Portland violence from July 2020.
And in more DPRKesque dictatorial fashion, he blathers this tidbit.
And what was co-conspirator Hegseth’s contribution to this photo op?
That’s telling the assembled career military officers, those who’ve dedicated their entire adult life to serving their country, that “too many” of them do not deserve the rank they hold. They will be cashiered. The only question is how soon that will happen.
Speaking of Hegseth’s view of the military, under his stellar leadership, it’s quite likely military suicides will increase. Why do I say this?

Way back near the beginning of this thread, I posted a poll asking what y’all thought was driving how the felon is reigning. One of the options was to punish the country.
I wish people in the administration had riffable names to the exact extent of their badness. There are lots of names for Trump but I don’t use them because they’re funny, I use them because I want to use his name as little as possible.
Whereas there is no end of hilarious names for Secretary Hogshead.
Fuck the coffee order, I have a really emergency on my hands. I’m out of weed. The weed store is six blocks away and, wouldn’t you know it, my Kevlar vest is at the cleaners. Lord knows how long it’s going to take me to belly-crawl through Pearl and back.
They’ll keep a token black or two around, but all the others that aren’t straight, white males are gone. And most likely, none of the tokens will ever get more than two stars.
BTW, did anyone else notice this. “Male-level” physical fitness standards are how they’re going to get rid of virtually all women in the service. There’ll probably be exceptions for traditional female occupations (nurses, secretaries) but that’ll be all. In other words, it’s back to 1950 for the military.
And no doubt how they’ll get rid of all the “sissies” (as co-conspirator Hegseth likely is dying to say) too. But Rob Kearney certainly can pass any test they devise.
Also, at least Hegseth’s aim is to get rid of all, not virtually all, but exactly all women from the military.
Do you really think they’ll leave nurses in the military? They certainly won’t leave male nurses in.

I really don’t know much about him. It’s possible he still thinks of gays as being all limp-wrists.
Depends on how much he liked MASH. Which once had an episode where a male nurse was assigned to the unit as an orderly. The Army only let women be nurses back then.
First - the military has long had male secretaries and nurses. I wouldn’t be surprised if those positions were usually male for most of history. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Kegbreath insists on calling male nurses by some other term.
Second - in 1950 there probably were a non-trivial number of women in those military roles, many of them “leftover” from WWII which saw unprecedented numbers of women in the military.
Of course, Kegbreath is too young to remember the 1950’s, and the Orange One too senile. They’re promoting a 1950 that never was. Sort of a cross between Father Knows Best and The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s as real as the fake gold vomited all over the Oval Office.
