That answers why Trump will allow it. Why would Qatar want to do this?
You got me there. I’m gonna guess Trump promised them something. Does Quatar have enemies?
(Nevermind me, clearly he promised them access to an American Air base…)
Maybe Trump should open a Saudi Arabian pilot-training facility in Florida.
Because they’re friends with China, and allowing China to build an air force station in the U.S. might not fly.
The Qatar thing has something to do with the Israel/Gaza ceasefire - the Qataris are involved in this thing up to their necks, and my guess is that the base was part of their compensation. We’ll learn the details eventually.
So, actually Trump didn’t negotiate a peace deal he bought a peace deal.
Playing to his strengths.
But, what happens when he suddenly tells the Qataris that their “peace” is crap, and there’s no way he’s paying full price for that! They don’t like it, he’ll see them in court!
Hiow do the Qataris benefit by a US air base?
Well if it’s because they are friendly with China, it potentially means that China gets to (in Qatar’s name) put a major intelligence gathering installation inside American borders.
The big thing is it lets them train with US pilots to US standards. And even Trump hasn’t been able to degrade the Air Force that much that fast. This gives Qatar a big edge over everyone in the middle east except Israel.
That’s what a deal is, isn’t it? You give people what they want and they give you something in return. The ceasefire is a massively complex transaction involving dozens of countries and organizations, which is why we can be sure that Trump’s actual involvement in it was minimal.
Yet personally lucrative.
I don’t mind buying a peace deal if it results in peace and benefits people on all sides. I’m hopeful but skeptical on both counts.
Yeah, you have to deal with corrupt people to get things done in the Middle East. The Emir of Qatar, the President of Egypt, Donald Trump. Nothing you can do about it.
Ugh, I need to get some sort of amnesia after that post. I may have horrific nightmares for a long time.
Not long ago, I caught a snippet of a Cabinet meeting, and by God, they were doing the thing again where they went around the room and each praised him with all their might, and it was so over the top that it seemed like a bit. Do they do this at every Cabinet meeting? I was embarrassed for them.
Cabinet meetings are generally private, but I think I would not be surprised if “fawn over Dear Leader” was a standard agenda item in all of them.
Morning Joe reacts to cabinet members heaping praise on Trump at meeting
Summary?
