Another thing about that Alaska flooding: the Weather Service predicted the storms would go to a different part of Alaska, so no one in the areas affected had warning. They can’t prove it, but most likely the reason for the mistaken prediction was that weather balloons aren’t being lofted in Alaska as often as they would like. Some stations don’t send any up, others only send one per day instead of the usual 2/day. And the reason for this decrease in ballooning is the firings and early retirements promulgated by DOGE.
That’s the exact layout of the billboards. Though ISTR the billboards were white letters on a black background, at least in NYC.
I’d estimate sales at $67,000.
A similar placard with smaller words and a picture of trump would go for ten times that. Maybe only $1.000 if he made 1.000 of them all auto-signed with his psycho signature and make a $1,000,000 for the family business.
I, for one, am not perplexed at all, Congressman Jeffries. You just said why America’s right-wing wannabe dictator loves Argentina’s. They are two turds in a latrine.
I don’t understand. You either pay the exorbitant fee or bribe make an in-kind payment to some Dump scheme to get a waiver of the fee. Seems reasonable to me through the grifty filter.
If you think any of that money is going to be used for health care, I have a mailbox bridge to sell you…
And not only because of graft, but because the people who would be in charge of administering that money are violently against public health, public education, public investments in infrastructure… well against the public in general.
Jeffries appeared to be making the point that the $40B could have been used to provide health care in the US rather than to “help Argentina’s conservative leader* weather that country’s financial crisis.” He wasn’t making any predictions about what the money would be used for in Argentina, though his use of “right-wing wannabe dictator” doesn’t imply a great deal of confidence in the idea that it would be used to benefit his people.
Jeffries yes, but Monty said “Apparently you need to change your citizenship to Argentina to get health care fuding from the US goverment.”
It irks me a lot when this is presented as some kind of favor to Argentina or Argentinian citizens instead of what it is, a way to help Milei’s political fortunes at the cost of saddling us with the one thing we definitively do not need more of: Debt.
Ah, but it’s not just that! It also bails out some bad bets made by Scott Bessent’s bondholding cronies at the same time! It’s a floor wax, and a dessert topping!
A tunnel like this would traditionally cost an estimated $65 billion to build, said Dmitriev, who is head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, adding that The Boring Company and its technology could potentially reduce those costs to $8 billion and complete the project within eight years.
