Donald Trump has the analytical skills and emotional makeup of a three-year old. He is lazy, impatient, lacking in any moral core or conviction, vain, a creature of his own basest impulses, incoherent when speaking, and quite likely the owner of several personality disorders.
But the guy who insisted on his Secret Service detail stopping to let him extend a fist into the air shortly after an assassination attempt knows and understands symbolism and its power. It is probably the one thing he does understand better than your average person, because he finds it useful in manipulating situations to his own advantage. He probably doesn’t get it at the level of analysis - I’d be shocked if he can explain why something works the way it does, but he has a gut feel for it that rivals Ronald Reagan, FDR, and George Washington.
You’d think that with so many horse’s asses in his orbit, he could scrape together a couple of dozen…
