Not anymore. They broke up when Putin refused to end the war and give Trump all the credit so he could get his Noble.
Trump isn’t invading Canada or Greenland. That’s just empty blather of the “everyone should do what I want because I’m the most special boy and you all want me to be happy” variety that he constantly engages in.
If they were annexed as one or more territories, they would get, as you say, zero representation in the federal legislature, something their territories currently do have. Why would they abandon that?
I’m not up on all the allowed reasons, but the Catholic Church does allow annulments for certain things. An in-law of mine got one when it became apparent her spouse did not want children. Would failure to submit to the faith be an allowable reason?
Vance wasn’t Catholic when he and Usha married. If he wanted to, he could get annulment based on their marriage not being valid by the Catholic church’s standards in the first place - the basis would be that the marriage lacks canonical form.
I remember a divorced co-worker of mine getting married to a Catholic in the Catholic church because his first marriage wasn’t recognized by the Church - he and his first wife were married on the beach by a non-denominational pastor in Jamaica. Ditto for a woman I did some freelance work for - she’d been married the first time in a Pentecostal church and that marriage wasn’t recognized either.
This makes me reflect on how treatment of prisoners in the Middle East had so much to do with why groups like ISIS are so much more threatening than one might expect from a grassroots resistance movement (it’s not exactly Astroturfed, but SOMEBODY dropped some Miracle-Gro on that sod).
Is it the PLAN to turn the entire planet against America, one region at a time? Messrs Niven and Pournelle have a nice novel called Footfall that suggests how that might not work out to their best advantage (@Andy_L knows what I’m talking about.).
Footfall definitely also has an asteroid drop. Per wiki;
The Fithp respond to the defeat of their invasion by dropping a large asteroid into the Indian Ocean, whose impact results in environmental damage on a global scale, particularly the almost total destruction of India
IIRC, in Footfall, the Earthlings were subjected to an interplanetary invasion. Although it was completely asymmetric warfare in favor of the invaders, the Earthlings prevailed, due to out-of-the-box thinking (and opposable thumbs).
