The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues

Hoping for a swift drowning.

For him or themselves?

This just makes my head explode. He poured 5 billion gallons of water down the drain (which would be of use to Central Valley farmers in the spring planting season, but not now) claiming it had something to do with fighting fires in Southern California. I’m speechless.

So where does that released water ultimately end up? In the ocean? In a downstream reservoir?

Today’s headlines were about der fuhrer planning to fire “thousands of FBI agents” who may or may not have been involved in investigating the J6 assholes. This would be done without regard for these people’s careers and families, not to mention the impact on ongoing investigations into subversive activities and the like. He is truly a heartless, vindictive asshole. Hopefully there is some protection from this sort of action.

From the NY Times: Nor, she added, will the releases be of much use now to farmers because their fields are currently dormant. Rather, the water — which was being held for use during the region’s notoriously hot and dry summers — is likely to run through canals and either come to rest in low-lying basins or flow out to the Pacific Ocean.

My understanding is it’ll end up in Tulare Lake.

Well, with a little luck, the lack of a spinach crop due to water shortages will be in the Schadenfreude thread.

This apparently doesn’t affect press credentials but seems more like petty vindictiveness and to reward suck-up organizations.

Defense Dept. evicts NBC, NPR, NYT from Pentagon offices to make way for Breitbart, OANN

The major news outlets were ordered to vacate their offices as part of a newly instated “media rotation program”

The Department of Defense has ordered several major news outlets to vacate their press offices inside the Pentagon to make room for upstart conservative publications and networks.

In a memo shared Friday, the New York Times, NBC News, Politico and NPR were told to leave their long-held offices in the so-called “Correspondents’ Corridor” by Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense John Ullyot.

The move is billed as a way to “broaden access” to newer media organizations who have never held office space within the Pentagon. However, a look at the chosen incoming tenants shows the Pentagon favoring conservative outlets that offer friendly coverage of President Donald Trump and his administration.

After the aforementioned outlets are ousted on February 14, the Pentagon plans to hand over their offices to the New York Post, Breitbart News and One America News Network. The Huffington Post, taking the place of Politico, is the only incoming outlet not overwhelmingly conservative in its news coverage.

The Defense Department clarified that they are not revoking any press credentials, even as they showed the legacy outlets the door.

“The outlets that vacate the spaces that are loaned to them by the Secretary will remain as full members of the Pentagon Press Corps,” Ullyot wrote. “They will continue to enjoy the same media access to the Pentagon and will be able to attend and cover briefings.”

All part of the intensive propaganda campaign. Can’t have any truth tellers in the mix.

Also means there will be fewer real, experienced journalists around asking difficult-to-answer questions.

Those news outlets supposedly won’t lose their access but how does that work on-site at the Pentagon? Without offices, do they have to work out of some common media room? Are those offices open 24-hours/day and do you need an office to be there at any hour?

Just seems like spiteful retribution. I can just see some major military news breaking and the internet just happens to go out in the common media room (if that’s the set-up).

He’s not president now. Musk is.

I find myself pinballing between this thread and the “compendium of horrors” thread. Are they different in some way?

The “compendium of horrors” thread is in Politics & Elections, while this one is in the BBQ Pit. That seems like a useful distinction to me, which is also reflected in their respective thread titles.

Okay. It was my sense that the same stuff was getting posted to both places, but maybe that’s the intent.

Sort of.

The hope is that P&E threads will be used to discuss in a mature-ish manner the political ramifications of particular events and actions, whereas BBQ Pit threads will be used to vent about how angry it may make us.

Unfortunately, it’s becoming a distinction without a difference in P&E. Not an improvement, in my opinion.

Probably not, Republicans don’t eat vegitables just red meat, and Trump will presumably blame the inevitable water shortage on Newsom’s mismanagement.

Ha!
That’s funny. From a MAGA site (troll) today:

The MSM is lecturing MAGA that fresh fruit and vegetables from Mexico are about to get much more expensive. But the joke’s on them: MAGA don’t eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Now, if the tariffs make the price of Applebee’s go up, Trump is done for.

Holy crap I just had the pleasure of watching the address he gave following the DC air accident. It’s unbelievable - you can actually see the point where he just decided to go off script and start rambling about blame, then explaining to people how helicopters can move in different directions, and that if the helicopter and plane hadn’t been in the same place as each other, there wouldn’t have been a crash.

Thank you, Mr President. I never understood that things have to be close together in order to collide, until now. Sheesh - honestly it’s just a stream of utter drivel.
