The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues

This. After all, many of them work in construction, right? And they’re used to hot weather and impossible working conditions, amirite? Win-win.

My last gig was as Senior Management in an e-commerce (ie, dot-com) company. In my early days with the company, it was still the Wild West.

When the need arose, I would literally stand behind some of our extremely talented and not-all-that risk averse IT people and tell them what I needed. They would then code it, in real-time, against the production server – even during the peak of our holiday website order volume spikes.

At some point, we hired in seasoned CIO’s whose flippin’ heads exploded at the mere mention of this having happened.

They would invariably go on to denigrate and disparage me, those (by now, former) IT people, and all who came before Them as irresponsible, know-nothing cowboys – cowboys who – I would always be quick to point out – turned over a company worthy of attracting your (the new CIO’s) estimable talents and reputation.

The mere possibility that Musk’s “bro’s” are literally coding against the production server of the US Treasury … is totally incomprehensible to me.

OT: my brother met our Director of Software QA at my wedding. They fell in love and have long since been married. They’re MAGA; otherwise, I’d love to send her this article and watch her head explode based on the same thing. I fear, though, that she would only reply with, “Yeah? So what??”

Make him code in Brainfuck.

Yes, this.

Software engineers in the 21st century constantly have to learn new APIs if not whole languages, but they also have assistance from things like AI, so I very much doubt that this is a genuine issue.

The issue with COBOL and the millenium bug, was that companies / institutions wanted the peace of mind of hiring someone with 5 years+ commercial experience, and that’s not a thing that young developers could study their way into.

Musk doesn’t care about peace of mind (he has a piece of mind).

Probably the suggestion that COBOL would be an impediment was meant tongue-in-cheek anyway, but I’m just saying just in case.

This is another example of liberalism being vindicated. On so many issues, various one trick left-wing ponies complain constantly about how people they dub as “liberals” are indistinguishable on not only imperialism, but also immigration and income inequality amongst many other issues. (Of course, which issues they think they should drop or emphasize depends on the flavor of leftist.)

It’s quite obvious that Trump is quite worse on all these left-wing hobby horses. Since many of them do not affect me directly, normally I would feel schadenfreude for the non-voters and bothsidesers, but it’s crowded out by the dread I feel in my stomach every day for the ongoing destruction of my country.

Trump on airfares

Just as a benchmark, fares on Trump Air were $49 to $125 for a 48 minute helicopter flight, according to Wikipedia. And that was back in the 90s. I don’t know what the rates were for the Trump Shuttle, but I’ll bet it was a bit mor than $2.

Damn! I guess I can go ahead and take those trips that I’ve been putting off because of the cost of airfare. I’m seriously out of touch! :woman_facepalming:

I mean, it’s one plane ticket, Michael…

Who coulda guessed that under Trump a plane ride and a dozen eggs would cost the same!

from the article:

Bro thinks you can pay for your flight with a fifth of a banana

Pretty soon you’ll be able to pay for a plane ticket with ONE egg!

Back in 2016 when I was flying twice a week I managed to grab a flight for £8 including tax. The taxi to the airport cost me 3 times that amount. But the taxi also had 3 times the legroom compared to the Ryanair plane.

I thought that was the center “Free” square.

Maybe a ticket for an aeroplane costs $2. A ticket for an actual airplane costs more.

Fun fact: Canadian regulations use the term “aeroplane” throughout.

Though tickets are more expensive here in CAD.

Perhaps he means another denomination also called “dollar”?

A flight on this 747 is probably under two bucks.

You will probably be able to ride those at The Gaza Strip Mall.

But would you feel safe when all the Air Traffic Controllers are fired/bought out/deported?

I think part of the proposal is to let you eat cake

Maybe it’s only $2 if you buy it with Trump meme coin. But you have to buy a minimum number of meme coins first for the offer to be valid.
