That is the thing that probably drives me the most crazy about the economy in general. People seem to think that there is some sort of United States Oil Company, whose sole purpose is to drill oil out of the ground for the benefit of Americans and Americans only. The oil industry doesn’t work that way!
They should be asking why the average price for a gallon of gasoline costs the same that it did in 2008 even though the price of a barrel of oil is less than half of what it was at its peak in that year. The oil companies and gas stations are milking consumers for every dollar they can. There has probably never been a more profitable time to be an oil company than right now. Drilling more oil is going to hurt profits.

Yeah but oil companies are struggling to get by, making merely tens of billions of dollars net profit a year.
