The NIH indirect reduction is set to reduce the budget of my University by about 30 million dollars per year. If all funding agencies follow suit, that’s about 50 million.
This will kill academic research. Which is the point i gather.
All this to save 4 billion dollars per year. That’s about the cost of a stealth bomber.
One airplane for the entire US biomedical research arena. MURICA!
My daughter in law is in her last year of a PhD in virology at Wisconsin. Within days of the inauguration her research was shut down due to uncertain funding and her defense was moved up 6 months so at least she’ll finish. Where she’ll work, otoh…
Well, well, well. It seems the honeymoon may be over. (I wish.) From Yahoo:
President Donald Trump angered some of his Christian supporters on Friday when he named a televangelist who even some conservative evangelicals have labeled a “heretic” as part of his White House administration.
The president signed an executive order establishing a White House Faith Office and chose Pastor Paula White-Cain, his ally and spiritual advisor, to lead it.
White-Cain, 58, is a megachurch preacher from Florida who has endorsed biblical interpretations that some evangelical Christians believe go too far.
Why am I not surprised by any of this? Why am I not surprised by her name? Why am I not surprised Felon47 loves her preaching?
And this is too rich (heheheh):
“Even though President Trump is enforcing laws that line up with our values, that doesn’t mean he has any clue what biblical Christianity is or why it matters,” Christian podcast host John Mason wrote on X. “Paula White is a known heretic and known false teacher who has no regard for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Come on. That means she fits right in with your hero, Johnny. Trump has no regard for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. And this is something you should have known long before Day One, AD (after Democracy).
Indeed. Wiki describes prosperity gospel as
a religious belief among some Charismatic Christians that financial blessing and physical well-being are always the will of God for them, and that faith, positive scriptural confession, and giving to charitable and religious causes will increase one’s material wealth.[2] Material and especially financial success is seen as an evidence of divine grace or favor and blessings.
I know that some “Christians” twist everything so they can justify themselves, but I’ve always found this quid pro quo with “God” especially distasteful and even harder to understand. I mean, I understand the the basic reason is greed, but isn’t this opposite of everything Jesus stood for? Like, written in black and white opposite?
40-year old pop culture reference from Pale Rider:
After Coy offers to let him establish a lucrative ministry in his town, the Preacher replies, “You can’t serve God and Mammon both, Mammon being money.”
Trump and his ilk are all about transferring money to themselves, and are certainly not about serving God.
“Mammonism is wonderful, the best ‘ism’ ever. Nobody’s ever seen anything like it. It’s incredible, what those archaeologists can do with mammonism. They’re close to cloning one, did you know that? Tusks, a trunk, everything. Not many people know that.”
