The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues

He’s already declared quite some time ago that the name has changed. Thankfully while some organizations say that they will obey this diktat, I haven’t seen a reference to the Gulf by that name out in the wild yet.

But I did also hear a story on NPR of his plane flight to the Super Bowl, which, when it passed over the Gulf, gave him the opportunity to point out to reporters that he had “changed” the name.

He’s done more than that (from The Hill):

President Trump announced that Sunday was the first ever “Gulf of America Day,” following an executive order that set in motion the process of changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico.

The president signed a proclamation on Sunday and had the flight crew announce that Air Force One was passing over the newly renamed gulf when it flew from Palm Beach, Fla., to New Orleans. Trump made the trip on Sunday to attend the Super Bowl.

The proclamation declares “February 9, 2025, as Gulf of America Day,” adding, “I call upon public officials and all the people of the United States to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.”

“to observe this day with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.” And those would be?

How soon before he gets the “brilliant idea” of renaming the language to *American" and declaring it, via executive order, the sole official language of the United States of Merka (yeah, he’ll change the spelling too)?

I just found out he was meandering around in a bewildered mental fog at the Super Bowl, he got soundly and roundly booed, and left early.

I propose a rousing game of Pin the Tail on the Donald.

The Mammonists are pissed at Trump for denying them access to their sacrament.

If we had to credit 45/47 with one progressive initiative, then separating Mammonists from their microphone and tax free status would be on the podium.

In Raw Story:

We affirm the goal of eliminating wasteful spending throughout government but caution against hastily pursued measures that will prove costly,” Carey said, as Business Insider reports. “The abrupt closure of many effective aid programs will mean that some of the money already spent will have been wasted. Commodities will be lost and food will rot, medicines expire. Other supplies may be stolen or misappropriated because the staff and the partners are not allowed to receive them.”

“We didn’t think he’d let that billionaire eat our face!”

I know it’s expected on the SDMB to attack Evangelical organizations but do you honestly think stopping “effective aid programs” resulting in waste, lost commodities, rotting food and allowing medicines to expire are good things in impoverished areas?

While you and I likely don’t agree with the rhetoric from Evangelical aid organizations it is wrongheaded to assume everything they do is dishonest. There are many of these groups that do good things around the world and they will be among those who have to stop helping people due to the defunding of USAID.

Orange menace lies (but you already knew that).
Sec. of State Rubio lies (well, that’s expected too, in between drinks of water).
Panama Canal edition.

Couple of highlights:
Ruby/Orange - we want free passage to save all this money.
“Over the past 26 years the US has paid a total of $25.4 million dollars for the transit of warships and submarines, equivalent to less than one million dollars per year, according to a Panama Canal Authority release.”

Ruby/Orange - the filthy China have taken over the canal.
"Hutchinson was first granted the concession over the two ports in 1997 when Panama and the US jointly administered the canal.

The company is publicly traded, not known to be on any US blacklists and their subsidiary Hutchinson Ports is one of the world’s largest port operators, overseeing 53 ports in 24 countries, including for other US allies such as the UK, Australia and Canada. Hutchison also does not control access to the Panama Canal."

They voted for him. It’s a package deal.

Meet this guy. A fan of the Tate brothers (rapists and human traffickers), hater of women particularly Nikki Haley, virulent immigrant hater, hailer of Putin, "… hailed Putin as “the most powerful leader in the international arena standing up for traditional Christianity and Western values”.

Only the best.

The real weaponized DOJ.

See, sex assault is a job requirement for this clusterfuck.

Unfortunately, I can post about this creeping disaster called Oranganus all day.
Another white nationalist who was actually fired during 45’s tour. Now he’s back, white nationalism is now mainstream, women are toast - merely receptacles.

Let’s see, the latest military related news for this cluster included firing the Commandant of the Coast Guard, apparently for no other reason than she’s female, and Hegseth getting Thai-monarchy level spending for government quarters repainting. And now we have this nonsense as reported by Military.com:

President Donald Trump wants the Defense Department to look at ways it could pay for the children of military families “to attend schools of their choice” as soon as next school year.

In the executive order Expanding Educational Freedom and Opportunities for Families, issued Jan. 29, Trump directed the department to “review any available mechanisms under which military-connected families may use funds from the Department of Defense” to pay for their chosen schools, “including private, faith-based or public charter schools.”

Trump gave the department 90 days to “submit a plan … describing such mechanisms and the steps that would be necessary to implement them beginning in the 2025-26 school year.”

First off, this is certainly no way to reduce government spending.

Second, the Department of Defense Education Activity is usually the only viable choice for those stationed outside the United States.

Third, and this is my personal opinion, this is just expanding school vouchers to more people with higher incomes to send their children to elite schools at taxpayer expense. It will, of course, not be workable for the children of lower enlisted and junior officers. In case you can’t tell, I despise school vouchers.

Finally, of course this is just pandering to certain people in the military. “Look how much I fought for your children’s education” while at the same time destroying the quality of life for the military.

And a very sharpie person is nominated for head of NOAA. (The link goes to USA Today.)

Neil Jacobs, the former acting administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, has been nominated by President Donald Trump to take the agency’s helm once again.

During his previous administration, the president nominated Jacobs to serve as the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Environmental Observation and Prediction and he was confirmed in February 2018. He became the acting NOAA administrator in 2018 and was nominated as administrator in 2019.

Although Jacobs served in the role from 2018 until the end of the president’s first term, he was never confirmed by the full Senate, after being embroiled in a controversy dubbed “Sharpiegate” as Hurricane Dorian was bearing down on the United States.

Who are “they”? Your response sounds like you think the recipients of assistance from USAID voted for the Orange Idiot and deserve to starve and lose access to vaccines and medical care.

Or you think evangelicals vote as some monolithic block and are all MAGAts. They aren’t. They aren’t a majority by a long shot but the ones who care about the disadvantaged in other countries are the least likely to subscribe to the selfish ideology of DJT.

So this idiot is suggesting that traditional Christians are those on the Orthodox side of the Great Schism. I’m sure evangelicals are going to love nailing icons up all over their churches.

They’re already OK with publicly worshipping a golden idol of Trump. It’s not all that different.
