Call me cruel, but I have zero pity, zero patience for Trump voters who are getting what the rest of us are getting good and hard. They had access to the same information as the rest of us, the same nine years experience watching and listening to the world’s greatest conman and doubled down on him anyway.
If the guardrails hold, if by some miracle the government doesn’t get dismantled – particularly USAID and medical research – would I withhold it from them? Hell no, they’ll deserve it like the rest of us. But I have no fucks to give if the guardrails fail.
And no, evangelicals are no more a bloc than anyone else, there are a couple evangelical preachers on YouTube who are calling Trump the anti-Christ. However PRRI reports 85% of white evangelical voters voted for Trump. I feel safe in applying Runyon’s law.
Actually, evangelicals are notorious for using their “charitable” efforts to spread bigotry worldwide. One of their triumphs being convincing Uganda to apply the death penalty for homosexuality.
I can’t help but think that someone on Trump’s staff went to John Adams’ description of Independence Day (that he wrote in a letter to Abigail):
I sure as heck can’t see Trump being familiar with that from his own reading or experience. The wording in the current suggestion is 21st Century Modern shorn of 18th century sensibilities, practices, and spellings.
Maybe he’s envisioning things like blindfolded “pin the new label on the map”
And most Americans aren’t supportive of Trump. We’re all still responsible for the election, though.
That’s the price of being part of the country. Might not be our fault individually but it sure as hell is our responsibility. We can’t just absolve ourselves of that responsibility by saying we didn’t vote that way.
Ditto evangelicals. Doesn’t matter if it’s not all of them. They’re all still responsible for what the solid majority of them profess and practice.
