The Trump Campaign Promise Walk-Back Thread

Now now, it’s not nice to make someone’s head explode just b/c they’re an idiot.

Many Trump supporters don’t believe his wildest promises — and they don’t care
When you think of all those GOP voters that would have preferred a different candidate, I bet a tonne of Trump voting people don’t expect much of it to literally happen.

Thanks.

Oooo… I love spelling “tonne” that way. Sounds more weighty than “ton.” OTOH can you picture Tennessee Ernie Ford singing, “16 Tonnes”? Maybe not.

Haha! There’s no disputing that British/Canadian spellings are sexier.

I frequent a pro-Trump site to try to reach out to them. I’ve posted and asked about: How they would feel if Trump didn’t build the wall or deport all the hispanics? They seem fine with that, they defer to Trump’s infinite wisdom and are sure whatever he does will make America great again. He can do no wrong in their eyes.

Yeah, baby.

Ask them if the manufacturing jobs Trump brings back will be good union jobs, with union wages and union benefits. Or will they be “right to work” jobs, with third world wages and no benefits? Globalism cannot be hand waved away just for the sake of making America great again.

Some campaign promises he might keep–from November 2015:

Since then, of course, he’s claimed that he didn’t really say that.

Okay, then what are they expecting?

Yeah, the standard of living of the middle class and even of the poor is just too damn high! Need to lower that so the billionaires will be more comfortable. Yeah, That’s the ticket.

And if that happens then who is going to buy the products the billionaires are selling? These people don’t seem to realize that impoverishing the middle class will hurt their own bottom line.

Other billionaires, of course. Once you have all the money, you create your own economy that avoids inconvenient details like an unemployed middle class.

Who’s going to babysit the kids, run the hair/nail salons, pump gas, drive the schoolbuses, repair the cars, computers, air conditioners, and clean the swimming pools, own the liquor and gun shops?

Remember when “Pappy” Bush was in the grocery store, amazed at the laser check out gadget. And you realized “This man does not go to the store. If you showed him a can of Cambell’s Cream of Mushroom Soup and told him it was $6.96, he wouldn’t even blink.”

Art History majors trying to pay off their student loans.

During the campaign, Mr. Trump said that he would keep fighting the lawsuit against Trump University.

Today, he agreed to a settlement of about $25 million. Jury selection was to begin in 10 days.

I think this is actually the first broken promise. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

This does confirm he was guilty so there is that.

As I understand it, the settlement will have no admission of guilt. Do you have a cite that shows otherwise? I’d love to see it.

Precedent. Trump considered Bill Clinton’s settlement with Paula Jones to imply guilt.
