The Trump civil trial

This seems to be a feature of high finance. Note that Michael Cohen was targeted when he stirred the muck - at that point, they went after him for fraud years before, where he used taxi licenses as collateral without telling the bank they were already collateral for a previous loan. The DA thus got him to plead guilty with the threat they’d also arrest and handcuff his wife and charge her (she signed the financial statements despite knowing nothing about the situation) unless he pled guilty to the Stormy episode. It makes me think this is business as usual in Manhattan, most get away with it, and probably same with high finance everywhere, just that when a mole pops up out of the hole too high, too publicly, the DA will whack them down using their inordinate powers of persuasion or the courts.

Also note the news reports on how Trump’s father used accounting tricks with front companies to redirect profits to his children in serious violation of tax law - which only came to light decades later. Nobody noticed until then…
