You forgot to mention the tear gas.
California has passed a law forbidding most police, including federal agents, from wearing face masks while on duty.
In a statement on Saturday, Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin called California’s new legislation “despicable” and a “flagrant attempt to endanger our officers”.
She said the officers at ICE and other federal law enforcement agencies “put their lives on the line every day” to do their jobs.
“Make no mistake, this type of rhetoric is contributing to the surge in assaults of officers through their repeated vilification and demonization.”
No, lady, they’re demonizing themselves just fine.
The fight back begins.
Why am I certain this sentence, by accident, is meant exactly the way it’s written?
(I.E. The vilification and demonization is the assault.)
Does it?
Also, it doesn’t seem to have been passed yet (SB 627: Law enforcement: masks. | Digital Democracy)
Also, from the text of the bill at that site, “(d)A willful and knowing violation of this section is punishable as an infraction or a misdemeanor.”
Ooh, an infraction in 2026. That’ll show ’em.
(I mean, it’s a good start, but please correct me and explain if this is not as weak a sauce as it seems.)
The site is needing an update – Newsom signed it yesterday.
And 90 days or so between a bill’s signing and its taking effect is typical.
Pretty sad when the “good news” is that a Children’s chaplain has not been tortured or sent to a third world prison.
Wow. Let’s celebrate!
Well, it wasn’t bad news, and these days, I’ll take pretty much anything I can get.
It doesn’t say if the shooter was an illegal immigrant.
In that case, clearly the shooter was trans.
The Mayor of Seattle calls ICE ads being aired in the area (I see them up in Birch Bay, 100 miles north of Seattle) ‘disappointing’, and ‘insulting to the oath that officers took when they raised their hands and swore to uphold the Constitution…’. At the end of the statement he says, ‘We are not going to compromise our high standards for law enforcement when the Trump administration tries to bully us into violating our own laws and values.’
NBC affiliate KING-TV noted after reporting the story that although the ICE recruitment ads do air during the news, they are bought by the KING5 advertising department and not the News division. (My thought: I wish KING-TV had not bought the ads, but props to the News department for implying by their statement that they do not agree with it.)
I find it interesting that the only victims of this shooting were detainees. No ICE agents were harmed and the shooter died as well.
With the Charlie Kirk shooting, we were given a written confession that was utterly perfect for making the narrative exactly what MAGA needed it to be although it is not written in the style of a young person. It will be interesting to see if we get a similar written confession here along the lines of “Look, we found an Antifa manifesto at the shooter’s house!”
What’s the betting that he was an ICE employee?
According to the latest CNN report:
No motive was immediately announced in Wednesday’s attack. The FBI is investigating it “as an act of targeted violence,” and rounds found near the suspect contained messages that “are anti-ICE in nature,” according to Joe Rothrock, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Dallas field office.
Just like the rounds used by the Kirk assassin contained messages that were anti-fascist, I’d assume.
Clearly, if we follow the FBI’s logic, Kirk’s assassin missed his intended target.
If this post turns out to be accurate, then the ICE facility shooter is another libertarian-leaning hyper-online brainrotted shitposter.
I presume those ads are similar to the ones in the Chicago area. I also assume their in every major urban area, particularly those perceived as Democratically controlled.
Yeah, for all the bloviating about targeting of ICE it seems to me that ICE was not targeted here, the detainees were.
Until proven otherwise that’s pretty much my assumption.
I used to naively think it was stupid that my local federal building, with the ICE office, has always had the US Marshals stationed by its exterior, in a patio there. Now I understand it’s to discourage actual attacks.
