Good news, it is not just Americans who have these “I don’t believe anything on the news these days”
Bad news, it’s spreading to other countries.
So as I walked past the NY Times building today I passed a group of protesters standing out in front of it. Well not directing in front of the entrance to the building where the NY Times is currently but just off to the side so when I first came upon them it looked like they were protesting Dean and Deluca.
They were all Korean and were holding signs about that ferry disaster that killed so many students and the English parts of the signs was about how it was all “staged as an accident” but really it was a “massacre”. I didn’t see exactly who they were blaming and did not ask.
Anyone hear of this? Why are more and more people living in fantasyland?
People like to blame. They want targets for their blame. If there isn’t a suitable or satisfying target for their blame or anger, they may try to invent or create one.
It wouldn’t give me a sense of control. The idea that the ‘government’ could and would kill hundreds or even thousands of people and successfully cover it up would freak me out.
I wouldn’t stand outside Dean and Deluca chanting.
Control? Maybe not. But reassuring in that you now have a target for your outrage and something to rage against. And the feeling that it wasn’t happensrace, the tragedy happened for a reason, even if it was nefarious.
ETA: And the Dean and Deluca is just common sense. Nutjobbery is thirsty work. Not to mention their cinnamon buns.
