The UK show "Black Mirror" is available on Netflix streaming. Holy Crap!

Yes and that sucks, pretty eggheadish of me.

This is quite an interesting interview, particularly John Hamm talking about the difference between the sho wnot being on Netflix when he left the Sates to how it was when he got back:

Hi Boom,

Thanks for the article. I will mention that it bothers me that Canadian Netflix doesn’t get the same shows/movies/documentaries as US Netflix. Not very friendly of Netflix so says me.

I had to grab episodes off YouTube.

Holy shit, I didn’t think Black Mirror could top itself but the White Christmas special was something else. I just got done with the first viewing and I think I’m going back immediately for another watch.

NetFlix isn’t the one to blame when it comes to issues like this. (At least, not the only one). It’s all about distribution rights, which are often carved up into regions. NetFlix has to scramble to get the US rights from one source and the Canadian rights from another. (Or so I’m assuming from the fact that some of us have access and you don’t.) It might not be the same price in different regions, so NetFlix might consider some regions too expensive to license. It’s a crazy system.

Yeah given the difference in population here and the US, yet again Canada is small fish for Netflix and others. Not enough profit margin and licensing issues just make it unappealing, shame for us really.

I would love to see the 90 minute Xmas special.

I’m watching the Christmas special and so far, it is my favorite episode of the series.

Wow, I just finished it and while I have not seen all the episodes, the Christmas one this year is the best I’ve seen.

I won’t say any more about it, but I’d love to hear others thoughts once you have all seen it.

It made my wife cry.

I was almost past tears. Kind of a shock to my system. It’s not perfect, but a great episode. I was very moved.

One nice thing about Black Mirror, you can always count on it to be bleaker than you thought it could, and then casually show you just how cheerful that was in retrospect.

She has (and so do I for that matter) a really really hard time seeing anything involving

Innocent children getting hurt, and especially dying

So are they going to run an episode and a half and then wait 8 months to a year to run the other episode and a half?

FYI The Christmas Episode can be found on YouTube here.

He was born in Reading, he’s not really from Reading- he’s from Wallingford which tends to gravitate more to Oxford than Reading. I haven’t met him myself and I won’t go through the tedium of explaining my own tenuous connection to him, but I have heard from people who know him that in real-life he is actually a very down-to-Earth, funny and pleasant person!

Is it available in the US?

I hadn’t thought about like this before but I have to agree that this applies in spades to the Christmas Episode. Holy effing crap what an ending. Jaw-dropping casual cruelty causing evrything I just just seen to flash back before my brain. Sat there stunned. YMMV.

Episode available legally and free from Channel 4 on demand from http://www.channel4.com/programmes/black-mirror/til January 15th 2015

Non-UK residents MAY have a problem, sorry.

Unless you can make the internets THINK you are connecting from the UK but I may be on dubious legal grounds here so saying no more.

Or look at post 134.

I did assume that a youtube upload of a Channel 4 program would be illegal by way of copyright violation and thus likely to disappear quite quickly.

We just watched the first two episodes and enjoyed them, but I hope the show explores new themes as it progresses. Both the episodes I saw explored the role of the audience in public degradation, while that’s an interesting point, I don’t really need to see it 6 more times.
