The Ultimate Party CD

If you were to throw an all-out rager (the type of party where people randomly yell “WHHOOOOO!”, a lady or two dances on the coffee table, and the occasional meathead smashes a beer can on his head) what songs would you put on a CD compilation to ensure that everyone partied hard?

I’m not necessarily looking for favorite artists or songs. I like Radiohead, but OK Computer isn’t really compatible with jello shots. I want to know what songs make you get jiggy with it.

I’ll start. The must have on my list is MC Rob Base’s It Takes Two.

I just play some funk-- specifically a collection I picked up recently called “What the Funk”

Thank you, for lettin me, be myself, again.

Thank you (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) - one of the simply great songs of all time.

I always like to put on a few of the old standards:

Old Time Rock ‘n’ Roll by Bob Seger
You Shook Me All Night Long by ACDC
MONY MONY by Billy Idol
Twist and Shout by the Beatles
and many others.

When Aunt Hildy and the cousins get up to shake their tail feathers - Watch Out!

Excellent choices. And since it’s a requirement for parties in the South, I’ll also include Hank Jr.'s Family Tradition.

  • “Burning Down the House,” by the Talking Heads
  • “Come on Eileen,” by Dexy’s Midnight Runners
  • “Dirty Robot,” by Arling & Cameron
  • “Flash Light,” or “Atomic Dog,” by George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars
  • “Pistolero,” by Juno Reactor
  • “Respect,” By Erasure
  • “Rio,” by Duran Duran
  • “Rock DJ,” by Robbie Williams
  • “Son of a Preacher Man,” by Dusty Springfield
  • “Trip Like I Do,” by Crystal Method
  • “21st Century Digital Boy,” by Bad Religion

That’s all I got for now, but man, I know I have a lot more.

One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer by John Lee Hooker
Smoke Two Joints by Sublime
You Really Got Me by the Kinks or Van Halen (either is great)
Private Idaho by the B-52’s
Rockaway Beach by the Ramones
Right Around The Corner by the Detroit Cobras

all that said, though… You Shook Me All Night Long is probably the ultimate “Wild Party” song

A party sure as hell aint a party until I hear “Jungle Boogie” by Kool & the Gang.

When you are ready for everyone to clear out,
“This Party Sucks” by The Slickee Boys

You have to have some George Thorogood

And Kid Rock - Cowboy

Why Don’t We Get Drunk and Screw

Yo, Sir Mix-A-Lot, Baby Got Back. It ain’t a party if no-one’s been rapping along to “I like big butts and I cannot lie.”

Andrew WK knows how to party. Hard.

Or, if that’s not your cup of tea, go with RJD2’s The Horror.

Got to Give It Up Pt. 1 - Marvin Gaye = even nuns will be doing a rump shake.

RESPECT by Aretha

Best Friends Girl - The Cars

Something by Clifton Chenier

Some Salsa music

And when it’s time to clear the party down between those who need to go home and those who are going to sit down and DRINK!

Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Shane MacGowan!

Andrew WK rocks my face off.

My wife asked me to describe his music, and the best description I could come up with is that it makes you want to party so hard that you bleed, puke, and crap yourself all at the same time.

She said that sounded like a bad thing.

Sheesh. Women.

In Texas you gotta have

ZZ Top - La Grange - “they got a lotta nice girls…”
Jerry Jeff Walker - Sangria Wine

Love shack

I nominate any/all of Manu Chao’s live album “Radio Bemba Sound System”.
