Watching it on the History Channel, of all places.
There sure are a lot of assholes in this movie.
The Unforgiven? Hm. I don’t think of that movie as full of assholes.
Any chance you mean the Clint Eastwood movie, Unforgiven?
Yeah, somebody needs to shoot Gene Hackman.
My favorite western.
Little Bill kicked Clint Eastwood when he was down.
I figure he’s a walking dead man.
Looking forward to it.
Shoot out in the bar in the best Josie Wales style.
Little Bill is toast.
Cool.
And the only Western since Cimarron in 1930/31 to win best picture.
coughcoughDanceswithWolvescoughcough
If you exclude Dances with Wolves that is.
Which is why Clint growls (something along the lines of) “Kid, we all have it coming”.
My favourite Clintism of all time!
It’s a hell of a thing killin’ a man. You take away all he’s got and all he’s ever gonna have.
Yeah, but gawddammit, some (how do you get the cross out font?) LOTS of them are assholes and have it coming!
Out out standing movie. I thought he was going to befriend the scared prostitute.
You should ALWAYS. Exclude. Dances with Wolves.
So, who is more cool?
Bill Munny killing Little Bill, or Shane killing Jack Wilson?
“Well, he shoulda armed himself if he’s gonna decorate his saloon with my friend.”
I liked how, even as he cold-bloodedly prepares to shoot a man, he tells others that they should clear out of the way to avoid getting hurt.
Wilson is a true match for Shane. Little Bill is just a complacent bully who never stood a chance against Bill Munny. I think the Eastwood is a better pic, but Shane’s climax is a showdown, not a turkey shoot.
Well, it was a shotgun…
I disagree. It was the only Costner movie that had some quality and thought put into it. An outstanding cast of both whites and Indians, a good story, some faithful representation of Indian history without being condescending, and excellent cinematography. Looking at Costner through the lens of what he’s done since is unfair to this film, which stands on its own merit.
If you want a closer Eastwood comparison to Shane killing Jack Wilson, Pale Rider damn near remains an homage to Shane throughout.
Homage only applies if the movie is good. PR isn’t, so it’s just (generously put) a rip-off.
Open Range is better in just about every way.
