But it would be tremendously entertaining to watch somebody explain to Musk that they cannot upgrade those computers from Windows XP because the drivers to run the attached widgets can’t work with anything else. And that the widgets are needed to interface with the gidgets which are controlled by Windows 3.1 machines that are ultimately attached to a wotsit that runs off of a 5inch floppy disk and ardent prayers to the machine god.
I have to wonder, how does Blue Collar average Joe trump-lover reconcile shit like this with their love of trump?
Sure, on their own they wouldn’t even notice that it’s a trump executive order. But let’s say you hear Joe trump-lover (JTL) bitterly complaining a few months down the road about how they can’t pay for the cost of medicine they need, since the Democrats, or Deep State, or whatever, has caused the prices to go way up. And you tell them, no, it’s actually something trump did on day one. Here, it’s on this list of repealed Biden-era orders right on the Whitehouse-dot-gov site.
Would JTL say, well, I don’t care if he hurts me, as long as he hurts the people I hate even more? Or, since it’s trump, he must have a master plan, and I just have to trust him? Maybe it’s some trickle-down stuff, like Reaganomics-- if drug companies make lots more money at our expense, it will eventually help the economy! Then I’ll be flush with cash, and I’ll be able to afford medicine! If I go bankrupt in the meantime, big deal- trump himself went bankrupt many times! Or would they just refuse to believe it at all? That’s fake news! Uh no, it’s the official White House web site.
What will it take for the average trump voter to finally realize trumpism is terrible for them- anything?
That one. Trump supporters have been and are in complete denial, sometimes aided by blithe ignorance but even the more well informed just live in denial about what Trump and his merry band of oligarchs is doing to the country, and if pressed they will divert to some culture wars issue like transgender athletes or teaching critical race theory to grade schoolers that even if it isn’t complete bullshit has no impact upon their life but upon which they will fall upon their sword to champion.
I worked at a company in Canada that had similar sorts of situations where old software had simply reached its limits and needed to be updated. I was able to work with some really talented people who could solve these problems within set timeframes and budgets. But I’d say 90 to 95 percent of those people were here on the equivalent of an H1-B visa.
18 months. HAHAHAHHHAHAH. But, yeah, as has been said all that data could be downloaded and sold for a pretty penny. Maybe even in 18 months. But I even doubt that. They could certainly get a chunk of it though.
“The salient fact of American politics is that there are fifty to seventy million voters each of whom will volunteer to live, with his family, in a cardboard box under an overpass, and cook sparrows on an old curtain rod, if someone would only guarantee that the black, gay, Hispanic, liberal, whatever, in the next box over doesn’t even have a curtain rod, or a sparrow to put on it.”
Like many others lately, I’m not sure where to ask this.
Where is Antifa in the midst of all this fuckery? Now that there’s actual Fa, I haven’t heard anything.
Ack, too late to edit. That comes across as an appeal ,which it most definitely not. It is an actual question, presented wrongly. It had just occurred to me that I haven’t heard that name lately.
Sorry for the hijack; I don’t think it merits its own thread.
Yep, that’s what I was thinking of when I wrote that. I’ve pondered and speculated how trump can have such a rabid following when he’s such a clearly odious, awful person, and ridiculously unqualified for any elected office. I even started a thread about it, asking how he could possibly still be a viable candidate, back when he still was just a candidate- at that time I still didn’t think there was any way he could actually resume the Presidency, but I was flabbergasted that he was still a candidate at all. The ‘Sparrows and Curtain Rods’ theory is one of the most plausible. His followers love that he (seems to) hate the same people they hate.
The Simpsons LBJ said it first much earlier,
“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
Those are all positives to his supporters, not downsides.
As for his popularity, one way I’ve heard it put is that he’s a “superstimulus”. The Republicans spent decades propagandizing their followers to admire ignorance, venality, bigotry, incompetence, ignorance, irrationality, stupidity, privilege, cruelty, dishonesty and so on, in order to convince them to support the Republican party which exemplifies all those things. Then along comes Trump and he’s an exaggerated version of all those things, and those followers promptly switch to him instead of the Republicans they were supposed to support.
Without Trump actually having to do much of anything because the Republicans spent those decades doing the work for him; the Republicans carved a Trump shaped hole in themselves and Trump just stepped into it.
Antifa is a highly decentralized bunch of activist groups. Despite what the MAGAts and other right-wingers say, they are typically autonomous from one another and do not have centralized, united leadership. These groups can be any combination of anti-racist, anti-authoritarian or anti-capitalist among other things. I expect if protests start to happen about things the DJT administration is doing it will be quickly labeled by the GOP and the media as ANTIFA!!!1!!
I expect DJT and his minions would use such action as reason to invoke the Insurrection Act because of the threat they will say Antifa poses to the country. If this happens it could get really ugly really quickly.
