Hey Florida, you’ve just set a new record for new COVID cases in a single world. What are you gonna do next?

Christ, how dumb can people get?
(Bolding mine.) By November, we may have to retire that question.
Honestly, if slapping Make America Great Again on a bunch of masks, will make his followers actually start wearing them, I’ll be happy to give him a pass on this.
I’m honestly rather surprised that more of his supporters haven’t convinced him to do this. He could come up with a product line of semi-fashionable masks for, hell, even some bandanas for people who ‘don’t need no steenkin’ masks.’ He could make it red or black, or red and black, with MAGA45 or “All Lives Matter” or “Snowflake Patrol” on the front or something like that. His clown posse supporters would probably start wearing them.
Of course, the masks would somehow let more air out and be worse than no mask at all…
“How dumb can people get?”
“Hold my beer and watch this,” says Flori-duh:

This may be the first time that his me, Me, ME! attitude has caused him to overlook his grifting possibilities. Truly remarkable.
I think eventually, the right thing will be done because there will be literally no other choice. This is already on the verge of happening on the state level, and I think it’ll trickle up the chain (see McConnell actually talking publicly about a second check). There will be a lot of unnecessary deaths and suffering, to be sure, but I am of the belief that it will happen within a time period that will surprise a lot of people. (And to be clear, this won’t be out of compassion on the part of many involved; it’ll just be because they’ll have exhausted all the wrong ways, and that there are enough oligarchs who don’t want to “cash out” of the country and don’t want to see guillotines to nudge things over the edge.)
Yup, come January 20th, with any luck, the right thing will start getting done at the federal level.
But by the time the “right thing happens,” it may not matter, as most of the damage that could have been avoided will have been done. That’s the point his critics and critics of the GOP have been making. It’s not like the solutions are conceptually difficult to process and understand, either.
That’s what’s remarkable about the situation in the US. Many countries were hit hard with the initial wave of the virus. Moreover, it’s understandable that it took time for countries to figure out how the virus is spread and the resources required to treat patients. We were all flying blind - for a month. But after that, most countries worked collectively to reduce transmissions. The US, on the other hand, never escaped from the first wave, which then turned into a much larger and disastrous situation. This is not the country that put a man on the moon; this is a country that cannot work together to solve an obvious national problem. That is what the rest of the world sees when they look at the United States, and this perception will have lingering consequences that go beyond just COVID-19.
“No one* knew a first wave could spike like this.”
*Except for every epidemiologist and public health expert in the world.
Indeed, although at this point, I count any lives saved as a victory. I’m sure the people in question appreciate it, anyway.
In our continuing effort to anti-mitigate this pandemic, Georgia’s governor issued an order overriding local mask requirements:
I really don’t get it – if all these idiotic Republicans, including the idiot-in-chief, got together and started pushing masks, this disaster might actually go away in time for the election. If that happened, people would be so happy and carefree that the most corrupt president of all time would probably get reelected. Plus, they’d save lives!
I really, truly don’t get it. Do they actually still think this is some Democratic hoax? I thought you’re supposed to tell the rubes what you want them to believe, but not believe the bullshit yourself.
I think that many Republican Office holders are so into the blame culture and how to avoid blame they have simply forgotten about the objective.
They only care about Coronavirus in relation to its effect on the economy at all costs, their take is that if the economy is working then they will get re-elected, but they have failed to connect the economy with the effects of the virus.
Very strange. I thought they were so good at electoral politics. Maybe the anti-science bullshit they they’re always spouting is just too deeply entrenched.
I’m really beginning to think that republicans - at least some - see the coronavirus as a crisis to exploit. They know they’re losing in the polls. It’s entirely possible that some people want an out-of-control epidemic. I wouldn’t be for a moment surprised to see the president and some governors discuss ways to interfere with the voting process and declare emergency orders. Just last week, Kemp sent in the national guard to Atlanta to deal with “an emergency.” I told you all then, and believe now, that it portends strategy - a dark one.
It’s consistent with authoritarianism. The “truth” comes from the people who have the power, not science.
If Republicans didn’t behave like selfish destructive idiots, would they really be Republicans?
I get that, but at some point, you’d think some self-preservation instinct would kick in.
This fucking country! I can’t believe all the work we did in the NY area is going to waste.
