I’m not sure what’s more likely and clearly neither do you. I just lack your misguided confidence.
We could just nominate and elect women for positions of power. Got no problem with that. The soft guys with the wobbly bits run things? Why not? We of the stinky/hairy gender had about…what?..ten thousand years? Maybe they won’t be better, but they could hardly do worse.
“Yes. Dear!”. A slogan for the future!
OK, let’s assume that Fairfax has never forced himself on any woman.
That means that either:
-
Accuser #2, whose law firm says she has multiple persons who remember her saying back in 2000 that Fairfax raped her, is lying, and all these other people must be lying too. Or:
-
She spread this slander against Fairfax back in 2000 and is now coming forward to take advantage of it, but the people to whom she lied back in 2000 aren’t lying.
The likelihood that either story would hang together for long is minimal. Under #1, her false witnesses would realize that they’re getting into water above their heads, and one or more would recant. Under #2, this woman’s been living a life built on lies, and plenty of people will come forward to say that.
#1: People who are asked, or paid, to tell stories supporting a larger story that they have no stake in, don’t usually expect to be on the receiving end of tough questions, and they throw in the towel when those questions come.
And #2: people who’ve gotten tangled up with chronic liars generally love to reveal that fact if one of those lies gets publicity.
This isn’t rocket science.
And yeah, some other liar might come forward and say, “Yeah, women were always complaining about getting raped by him,” but then he’ll be asked, “OK, name three,” and his story will fall apart too.
From a purely governmental standpoint, surely no competent D or R government Top-3 would resign without first having appointed a party loyalist to be in the line of succession? It would be tantamount to Trump and Pence resigning and letting Pelosi take over.
I don’t think it is entirely their decision: the appointments have to be approved by the legislative body–and if governor or whatever is in serious political jeopardy then such approval may not happen.
I was rather certain someone said earlier in the thread that the lt gov position did not require legislature approval and a quick Google agrees. It seems the replacement lt governor would have to face an election in November to finish out the term, however.
It just seems to me being lynched is a bit more serious.
