This is a new Sci Fi movie on Amazon Prime. I enjoyed it. It is a very low key period piece set in a small New Mexico town in the 50s done in the style of the Twilight Zone or Outer Limits. It has some good performances and some great shots (my understanding is this is the director’s first full length movie. It won’t be his last).
It’s very low energy so I can understand if some people say it’s boring but I enjoyed the slow burn of it all. Anyone else see it?
I watched it last weekend. My wife and I enjoyed it very much, but thought that the faux Twilight Zone intro and edits were too much and detracted from the movie.
But other than that: really nice script, really good acting, and good directing to boot. It’d be hard to gush too much over the cinematography, even though there was one shot where I thought “ok, now you’re just showing off.”
Totally worth the price of admission.
A friend of mine recommended this, so I watched it, and “friend” should be in quotes, as shown. Turns out he was gigging me for a recommendation I had mad to him, which he hated.
I was a member of Local 487 IATSE for about a dozen years, and worked on, among many other movies, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch, sequel to The Blair Witch Project, and I say that “Vast” is a somewhat slicker version of those two. I watched it to the end, because I wanted to see how it was wrapped up. Hopes were high, but alas…
Did like the traveling shot through the gym, into the stands, out the window and down the street; this comes early on, and then you can bail on the weak story and the rapid-fire too-cute patter. Also, I get it, horror story, takes place at night, but talk about murky cinematography. OK, I won’t.
Damning with faint praise, here.
Save yourselves!!!
