I just dropped daughter #1 off for her freshman year in college. I thought I would be sad dropping her off, but I’m not sad, I’m jealous. She drew a great roommate, one of her best friends is in the same dorm, and on the lawn in front of her building the marching band and pom squad are practicing. She absolutely hit the jackpot with her room, too.
Check out her view taken on my phone less than two hours ago.
The view from my freshman year dorm room at the University of Pittsburgh was over towards the hospitals of what was then the University Health Center. Actually it wasn’t a bad view at all for a girl looking forward to big-city living… but the Medivac helicopters coming in and out sometimes made my room feel like the set of MAS*H
Huh. My dorm-room view in my first year was of the parking lot in front of the building. It was not scenic. I did get to witness a lot of drunken people getting out of cabs having drunken fights and drunken make-out sessions with drunken partners after drunken evenings. And when the fire alarms were pulled, I had a great view of the firefighters. (Who were not drunk.) (I think.) (I hope.) We gauged whether or not there was a fire by how quickly they ran.
What? Six stories is nothing to sneeze at in the middle of winter, when it’s -15C and there’s two feet of snow on the ground!
Beautiful view there. I spent a summer once in Boulder and loved it, the only issue I had was the altitude which sometimes caused headaches. But otherwise a beautiful place full of hot hippies and great beer.
