The Walking Dead; 2.03 "Save the Last One " (open spoilers)

Did we decide to leave the comics/books out of the threads on the tv show? Because if we didn’t, could we? I have no interest in reading them; I just come here to discuss the tv show.

Could somebody explain why Shane did shave his head, since it wasn’t to cover a zombie-scratch? Is it just “becoming a new person” or “becoming a mercenary” symbolism?

Not to mention that they were probably on his land. Not that I’m worried about trespassing, but they literally walked into his line of fire while he was shooting a deer on his land and couldn’t see Carl. I’m sure anyone would feel bad and want to help a hurry kid but I don’t think Otis should have had any guilt per se.

I think its the ooh shit - need to cover this up thing - and his own realization about what he has become and done.

Otis pulled some of Shane’s hair out while they struggled. For some reason, shaving his hair very closely should cover that up, but that doesn’t make much sense to me.

My jury is still out about Shane - he has a questionable morality, but I’m not willing to call him a complete bad guy yet.

Plus he makes up for a lot of questionable morality by looking really good with his clothes off.

I’m guessing Otis’s main fury came from the fact he didn’t think of “shoot the other guy as zombie bait” first.

If this were real, wouldn’t grenades if you could get 'em/homemade Molotovs if you couldn’t be a “must pack” item for going to places with lots of zombies?

I think because they lingered on him looking at himself in the mirror, it was to symbolize a sort of rebirth. New look, new Shane. Also, it may have been my imagination, but for a second there when the mirror fogged up, Shane looked…different

I don’t see how mentioning it will affect your desire to read it or not nor your ability to discuss the show only, and though the series is separate and different things can happen, it is based on the comic.

To me, this falls under the “don’t read it if it bothers you” heading, but who knows.

I may be way off.

Grenades could be handy as well as burning, but grenades will just attract other walkers and other people (good or bad) and fire bombs would take forever, and then you would have flaming zombies walking all around until enough damage was done to the brain to stop them.

I see what you mean, though.

For me, it would be a chopping or cutting instrument of some kind, maybe two.

Really? I’m thinking it probably never would have crossed Otis’ mind to shoot Shane in the leg, period. Remember Otis told Shane that he wasn’t going to leave him behind.

If the series goes long enough, I wonder if Rick is ever going to lose his hand.

I had thought about the filming implications if he does.

It will be interesting to see. That is a pretty iconic event, and really changes Rick, but you never know. Anything is possible in the series.

Yeah, wasn’t Shane about ready to give up and Otis inspired him to not quit?

I think anyway you cut it, Shane hosed Otis.

It would be an expensive effect though. I wonder if

his wife is going to be murdered shortly after giving birth

Hershel is a bit different from the way he’s portrayed in the books; much older for one thing.

I thought they were going to distort it in the fogging mirror to make him look like a zombie for a second.

Of course I found myself wanting to bang up the door and scream “IT’S CALLED A GENERATOR BRO! Don’t waste the hot water!”

As far as Shane shaving his head : a missing chunk of hair is a lot less obvious if the entire head is shaved, versus a full, thick head of hear with a chunk missing. I think he did it to cover up the fact that Otis pulled a chunk of his hair out because there’s really no other way to explain it. He sure as heck couldn’t say a zombie did it.

I guess it also represents a change in Shane - he’s becoming a different person because of the world they now live in. Different values, different ideas, different right or wrongs. All in the name of survival. It’s symbolic. The old Shane is gone. Shane the Zombie Killer is born.

You mean Shane the Otis killer.

Everything he does is a surprise…

I’m sure it is a well known fact, but Carl had to pop a cap in Shane to save Rick in the comic. It was a big moment for Carl. He shouldn’t exist to this point, so everything is possible with him.

Yeah, this is what I’m talking about. If everyone wants to keep talking about what happens in the books, it really interferes with the thread about the tv show.

When Shane noticed the chunk of hair missing, he frantically rifled through the drawers until he found the clippers. So yeah, it may represent a new Shane in the story but he did it to cover up the missing hair.

Did anyone notice what happened to Rick’s revolver? Shane wrestled it away from Otis, but it won’t really jive with Shane’s story if it’s found in his possession. His story is that they were low on ammo and down to using pistols with only a couple rounds left when Otis dropped back to cover him. So if they find the gun, then what will he say, Otis have it to him and dropped back to cover him with kung fu?

Also, when they show the boy laying in bed sweating from fever or gunshot wound or whatever, am I the only one that thinks, ‘hey, who left a hot Carl on the bed?’

We’re talking about implications of what happens in the comic versus what has happened or what may happen in the series.

It seems like valid discussion.

All three of your quoted comments discuss something in the show or not in the show and how it is or may end up different.

Just because YOU do not have an interest in the comic vs. the show discussions, does that mean everyone else doesn’t?

Clearly it’s more than just me.

If a Moderator or Admin has an issue with this sort of discussion, I will politely refrain.
