The Walking Dead; 2.03 "Save the Last One " (open spoilers)

Farms often have a large tank of fuel for all the machinery. My grandfather had one tractor and still kept a tank as large as a car behind the barn to fill up from. I dont know how long that would last, but you could only use the generators a couple of hours per week to stretch it out. Maybe they only have the power on now because its an emergency.

Why are we calling Shane “mercenary”? Mercenaries fight for whomever pays them. He’s pragmatic.

The hanging guy – anyone else think maybe he wasn’t dead when the Walkers found him? ::shudder::

Could be a way to explain it, if trying to stick to the canon of the books.

Botched hanging or maybe just poorly timed.

I think Shane’s actions were to save himself - not as much “save our own” - of course, he did also “save our own” so, there is something to that.

Cat Whisperer, I was also chanting, “I don’t have to run faster than the bear. I just have to run faster than you.”

Defense of course. So you could have some peace of mind without having to worry that at any moment a damned zombie is going to attack you. Methodically eliminate any zombies on the island, and then you can relax for a bit.

Thanks for the barn spoilers. Had no idea!

OY! VEY!

No. First of all, Otis’s dedication to “making it right” didn’t necessarily (and certainly needn’t, ethically) extend to sacrificing his own life.

Secondly, Shane didn’t even have the decency to shoot the poor bastard in the head, so that he didn’t have to endure being torn apart.

I sincerely hope Zombie Otis comes for his ass.

Guessing that was to keep him alive and “appetizing” to the zombies. Screaming, fighting back would attract them more than a dead body and give his gimpy self a better chance to escape.

I had the same thought as you, by the way. This is what I came up with.

Also, I was thinking the same thing about the bear chasing you as others mentioned. If he’d not had the twisted or sprained ankle he would not have needed to shoot him. Just run faster.

Salon has an insightful critique of the show: Dear “Walking Dead”: Please shut up

I’ll just chime in with the “enough of the missing girl schtick”. I’m starting not to care if she is alive or zombie.

If Shane had put a little more thought into their mission, he could have saved Carl without losing half his team. Been back sooner too. Idiot.

Also, as far as the whole issue of Otis shooting Carl, it was an honest accident (one that happens a lot in real life) and to top it off, Carl had camo and earth tones on and was likely blocked completely by the deer.

Were you to walk the woods during hunting season (every day is hunting season in the world Otis and friends live in) you’d be taking a serious risk.

It sucked, but I don’t see Otis making a big error, just bad timing.

I don’t think there’s going to be an ending right away to the lost kid thing. I caught a flash from next week when they’re back on the road, and there’s a car windshield that has a message to her. At least that’s what I think it was, I couldn’t read the whole thing.

Also, as someone else mentioned, Reedus as Daryl is really stealing the show lately.

I expect to see him die, just because that is how Kirkman rolls.

Really an under-rated actor.

I’m really surprised how many people seem to think Shane’s act of murder was justified in some way. Just goes to show you how we can all see the same think and walk away with different interpretations.

  1. Had one of them not died, both of them probably would have
  2. Had they both died, Carl probably would have died as well.

Justified? Probably not. Rationalized? Yes, absolutely.

While I liked the show, they’re doing too much of the “fall and someone gets their ankles hurt so they have to limp” thing. The little girl fell while being chased a few episodes ago, this week both Otis and Shane were limping. Its like Star Wars and its fetish of cutting off hands

I agree with what you are saying, but on the other hand it is nice to see people fall or drop 20 feet and not just bounce up and keep running.

Especially Otis. That would be a lot of weight coming down.

Andrea also fell and looked to have twisted her ankle a bit when the walker attacked her right before Maggie arrived.

It is over used.

but of all the injuries that make you more at risk in a zombie world - its the ankles and knees - wouldn’t be much of a show if the zombies were always easy to get away from.

(that was meant as a response to yogsouth)

Yeah, obviously missing a hand, or any other important body part from the knees up, seems to be okay. Just don’t lose a leg like Dale.
