The Walking Dead; 2.03 "Save the Last One " (open spoilers)

Hopefully this will be the last time we have this discussion, since we now have a separate thread for those who have read the comics and want to discuss them.

Now, to get back to the discussion at hand, it occurs to me that Daryl is indeed becoming a big part of this group, and we are guaranteed to see One-Hand Merle again at some point. That could get awfully interesting.

Well, we assume Merle is still alive (though he may have died since apparently stealing the groups van in season 1) so it sure is left open for such a thing.

I’d like to see Morgan again as well.

I almost see Daryl becoming a leader along side Rick, if Shane continues his evil ways or if things come to light.

How about something I noticed, when they first arrived at Hershel’s farm with the injured Carl, didn’t he say to go get his “foal kit”? (Pointing to the fact that he was a vet)

I guess Rick was in shock and wouldn’t care, but I wondered if I heard right.

Also, someone else mentioned, where the hell did Dale go when he walked off alone?

Just clearing his thoughts, or something more macabre?

Dale walking off alone was possibly the stupidest part of this week’s episode (second runner-up being Daryl and Andrea going off to search for Sophia in the middle of the night) - you’re living in the Zombie Apocalypse - your days of taking a little stroll off by yourself at night are OVER!

Well, maybe it will come back that he actually did something useful or important when he walked off.

Otherwise, I just don’t get it.

Daryl’s actions make sense - he had a hysterical woman on one side sobbing and crying - a suicidal one on the other practicing putting rounds into a clip - he couldn’t sleep and was getting more and more frustrated each minute. It was pretty much the most adult thing I’ve seen anyone do.

Andrea going with him made a little sense - you really shouldn’t be walking alone - but her view of searching the woods at nite is to keep the flashlight pointed down and never look anywhere with it - but she gets points for going.

Dale went to get a gun for Andrea - probably smoke one and take a crap - things he couldn’t do from the top pf the truck now that he wasn’t all alone up there.

I believe he said “full kit.”

Hmm, have to see a transcript or a copy of the script from the show, I guess.

I don’t care about the very limited spoilers we’ve seen, but the discussion about it is ruining the thread.

I think all of the discussion about the discussion about spoilers ruining this thread is ruining this thread.

Sweet Zombie Jesus EVERYBODY.

The god damn thread says “Open Spoilers”. If you don’t want spoilers, don’t go in an open spoiler thread. The OP put that in the title for a reason; we shouldn’t even be having this discussion.

Then why are we using spoiler boxes? Should people just go ahead and detail everything that happens for the rest of the story in the comics in the open? That’s the reason the OP put it in the title?

Really? You think “open spoilers” doesn’t refer to the episode in the very thread title that it’s included with, but open spoilers about anything?

You mean the discussion that was over until you brought it up again?

DARTH VADER IS LUKE’S FATHER!

typically, we use spoilers to cover up big stuff. If the thread title said “boxed spoilers”, then if its a spoiler, big or small, it better be boxed up.

But it specifically alerts the user that this thread will have spoilers and they’re likely to not be boxed. No one knows what a spoiler is gonna be about until they read it so you take a risk when you read em. Was it this week’s episode? Is it next? Is it the comic book they talked about so much last season or the last two episodes of this one? Who knows…

“Open spoilers” as part of normal episode threads always means that the content of the episodes are up for discussion without spoiler boxes. Personally I find this redundant because the idea of having an episodic discussion thread with boxed spoilers about the episode is pretty ridiculous, but this has been the clear custom for the entire history of the boards. There’s no way the OP means “open spoilers, including everything that ever happened in the comic books” in the thread title.

This is pretty ridiculous. The two-threaders have the right idea, but jesus, people…let it go, or get a mod ruling if you must.

Let’s talk about morons and monsters, let’s not be them…

Love it.

I really do love how dumb these guys are being. “hey let’s split up into groups and go wonder around in the dark, with flash lights”

“Hey, let’s both run into this stupid trailer and DEFINITELY not have any thoughts on how to get out”

“hey, i know everywhere else is outta power but let’s leave our house lit up like the god damn sun at night so, if any zombie out there saw it, it would definitely scream people. What zombies? Oh idk, the horde of zombies from the highway just on the otherside of these woods.”

I don’t get why night is any more dangerous. The Z’s don’t seem to be any more active at night than they are during the day. In fact, i believe in season one we see them lying around at night as well as during the day. They are mindless, and presumably “rest” when there is no prey about or other walkers to rile them up. They don’t seem to respond to the light cycle. You have the same level of danger, just more likely to become disoriented. That is probably not a big concern for an accomplished woodsman.

Except that it’s going to be harder for them to avoid and/or get away from a zombie during the night if they should happen to come across one in a densely wooded area.
The thing that TV shows do a bad job of portraying is that at night the woods aren’t dimly light, they’re pitch black. Even with a flash light you can really only see what it’s directly pointed at since there’s nothing for it to reflect off of it doesn’t really light up the area.
There’s a reason any reality TV show (think Discovery/Military reality not MTV reality) uses night vision cameras in the woods to follow the people they’re filming.

I agree with you, Joey.

The only darker dark than deep woods hundreds of miles from any big city is in a cave.

I don’t think that going out at night would attract more walkers, but you definitely would have to get a lot closer before you noticed them, and that would be no good.

Curious to see if all the gunfire at the FEMA trailer will cause any issues for Hershel’s farm. They are proven to be attracted to that sound by the first season when Rick was playing Rambo in Atlanta and got them all trapped.
