If you could share a gift link infinitely, then just one person could subscribe and gift everyone else a link to every article. If it has some limit (like 5 reads) that makes sense. Openly posting it on a message board probably shouldn’t generate infinite free articles. (I’m assuming that’s what’s happening here)
As far as I know the gift links on the New York Times’ website can be shared indefinitely but each subscriber can only create ten gift links per week/month/some time limit.
Pretty sure that’s the way the WaPo links used to work. A subscriber only gets 10 per month (and I don’t think I ever used more than a couple of them); but it’s only recently that I’ve been seeing complaints that the links only work if information’s given by the person who wants to read them.
God Damnit! There have been more than 100 posts about the actions of that SPINELESS BASTARD Jeff Bezos since yesterday.
I can’t catch up with all that. Can’t we just Nationalize WAPO and sell it at a discount to a normal Democratic human being who actually has a spine?
( What do you mean “we can’t use Perry White”? )
“Subscribers can gift 10 gift News articles per month: On the 1st of every month, Subscribers’ gift articles reset to 10. When an article is gifted, recipients can read it with or without a subscription. Recipients have 30 days to read the article before access is revoked.”
I sent a Washington post gift link to someone yesterday, and she said she couldn’t open it because she was not a subscriber. She’s not the most tech savvy person in the world, so I’m not sure what she saw when she clicked on the link.
“Democracy dies in darkness, so we’re going to turn off the lights to speed that up”
And aother paper’s owner blocks endorsement of Harris. (The link goes to AOL. And there are a couple of entertaining misspellings in the article.)
The Los Angeles Times’ billionaire owner Patrick Soon-Shiong blocked his newspaper from endorsing Vice President Harris to protest her support of Israel’s war in Gaza, his daughter reveled on Saturday.
Sure he did. I’m protesting the Dem’s stance on Gaza. That’s totes plausible.
Boy oh boy, just wait until he finds out out what the other guy’s stance on Gaza is.
Yep. Did he forget the melon felon called for banning Muslims from America?
This is what’s baffling about the waffling Palestinian community in Michigan, which could very well be key in this election. Also, it’s weird that baffling and waffling are pronounced so differently.
Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled WaPo and LA Times bashing! Thanks everyone for helping me vent my anger about those chickenshit owners.
I think the Michigan Muslims are sick of being taken for granted. They don’t see a ton of difference between the candidates on Palestine, and would like to be able to extract promises in the future.
(And a lot of them are quietly voting for Harris. The leader of the “abstain” movement has said he won’t endorse her, which means he won’t mobilize and actively help the campaign. But he’s also on record saying she is the less-bad candidate.)
I wonder if Trump threatened Bezos.
Personally, i think it makes more sense to drop Amazon prime in protest than to drop WaPo. The newspaper staff is still trying to write good news. And there’s not a lot of actual reporters left, they are one of the few sources.
I have my fingers crossed this will explain some of the faltering poll numbers for Harris. Much as some amount of Trump voters will (supposedly) be too embarrassed to admit as much to a pollster, perhaps some non-negligible number of Harris voters are declining to endorse her to pollsters to make a point about their dissatisfaction (one way or the other) over the US vis-a-vis Israel, but will still actually vote for her when it comes down to it.
Fingers crossed.
In Arizona, i ran into a non-negligible number of voters who were afraid to be heard by their neighbors or family members when they supported Harris. This gives me a little hope. But also, it makes me afraid of mail voting (which is nearly universal in Arizona) as i suspect husbands watch their wives to make sure they vote the “right” way.
But i fear we are off on a tangent, and should return to talking about the Washington Post.
OK; from NPR because linking to it at WaPo probably just won’t work:
Hopefully, someone will leak the statistics on what percentage of Post subscriptions were canceled this weekend.
