Bush and Romney not backing Trump

I guess he will slam Romney as a loser and Bush as incompetent. Glad to see this I always liked Romney but did not vote for him. No doubt McCain would not vote Trump if he was alive. Colin Powell on TV today probably will denounce Trump too.

Some Republicans Officials Are Considering Voting for Biden

At this point, it may be more interesting to compile a list of consequential conservatives and republicans who will endorse Trump.

Colin Powell just announced he’ll support Biden. He actually had to choke back tears at one point in the interview this morning with Jake Tapper.

I think the tide is finally changing.

Didn’t Powell already jump ship in 2008?

Trump is not a Republican.
Never was.
His followers don’t care.

Why was he sad? Serious question.

I’m sorry, I can’t find video of that part of the interview and I don’t recall exactly. I don’t want to misquote.

Okay, thanks. I’ll try to find it.

I can think of only two endorsements that could move the needle: George W Bush or Jim Mattis endorsing Biden.

In the Powell interview, it seemed to me he was most emotional when he mentioned how Trump started his serious presidential run with birtherism; and, how he (Powell) is the son of immigrants.

Not important. Just for the record.

Conspiring with a hostile foreign government to subvert the Presidential election is apparently OK.
Extortion of allies to further ones own goals and possibly help hostile foreign government, a-OK.
Obstruction of justice? Nothing to see here, that’s OK too.
Claiming that COVID is a Democratic hoax probably causing the deaths of 10’s of thousands of lives is apparently OK too.

Only now they are coming out against him. The protests are what it took?

Trumps only ‘political’ affiliation is to himself. But he has been a useful tool for many of the assholes (and hostile countrys) that are in the GOP. Perhaps a few are turning. Only those stupider than Trump are still behind him. Unless they still think they can gain something from this mess.

Trump’s reaction to peaceful protesters is what it took. What we need are more peaceful protests denouncing Trump. That narcissistic asshole will not be able to resist siccing the dogs and fire hoses, (or rubber bullets and pepper spray) on them, and we can coast to November.

People with depression are good at working in reality. Happy people ignore things that would make them have to reconsider their life.

Don’t give people enough light for a few months, get rid of their jobs, and then start hitting them with some cold, hard reality, and you can get some change.

Neither Bush or Romney endorsed Trump in 2016. This is a “still” not an “only now.” Romney also voted to convict Trump in the impeachment trial earlier this year. The “only now” seems especially odd when applied to him.

Most of these individuals had already distanced themselves from Trump well before, explicitly or implicitly. All they are doing now is saying “no, I will not fall in behind the presumptive GOP candidate in the end, as would have been normally expected”. Which, however, these being NOT normal times, that is exactly what we would all have expected of these former Republican headliners.

And it’s not as if the Trump voters care for any of them. The hardcore Trumpetistas scorn these figures. They would not have been likely to be invited to speak in prime time at the convention anyway(*) and any participation of theirs in the campaign “for the good of the Party” would be predicated on humiliating them by making them bow and scrape before Trump.

Good for them but let me see some top R’s who ***are ***facing reelection NOW or some RW media voices who are *currently *influential distance themselves and say “no, sorry, I stand for all Republican values but I’d rather wait 4 years for someone sane” and I’ll be impressed. I won’t be holding my breath.
(*though if the convention does happen at all it may be nothing but four consecutive Trump rallies with him speaking every night and Pence introducing him fawningly one night, Melania the next, some RW media darling the other; and not even the usual renomination by acclamation but making *every single delegation *deliver a paean to his greatness.)

A “conservative” President saying he wanted to use the Regular Army to take the streets, yeah, that should disturb even otherwise comfortable “conservative” types who’d otherwise limit themselves to soberly disapproving. And as said, these guys had ALREADY broken with him.

Considering how they had so many opportunities to speak out more forcefully against not only Trump but the direction of their party, this is the least they could do. It’s a good sign in the sense that this might be the beginning of the end for Trump, but not necessarily for the interests of oligarchy, which Trump’s critics still seem to subscribe to.

Trump is a registered member of the Republican Party. He entered primaries and ran as a Republican candidate. He was nominated by the Republican Party. He was elected as a Republican.

I can see why the Republicans now want to deny that Trump is one of them. But he is.

I suspect dropping poll numbers are what it took.

The ship is sinking and the rats are fleeing.

I know Republicans are fond of Christian forgiveness and all, but I think it’s a little late for some of these rats. I hope there is a 2017 litmus test for the GOP when all is said and done. Alas, there won’t be enough qualified Republicans to fill a convention hall in 2024.

Really wonder if Romney runs for president again in 2024. He will be 77 , same age as Biden now.
