I’ve seen a few Republicans saying that everything would be great now if only Jed Bush had been elected in 2016 like he was supposed to be. (Which I feel is ignoring the fact that the problems with the Republican Party aren’t limited to just Donald Trump.) It wouldn’t surprise me to see Bush run again in 2024 if Trump loses this year.
I fully understand and agree with the context about what you wrote that I bolded, but I just have to say… I completely get why Powell remains so emotional over the birtherism shit.
Nothing – nothing! – disturbed me more about Trump’s appearance on the scene in 2015 than his casual willingness to deploy naked racism through a false narrative to smear Obama about his place of birth, something so easily shown to be a lie. Worse was the indifference to the easily-discovered truth with which this lie was received by a substantial number of our citizens – and Republicans in Congress. How many accept it still.
That might be risky… If he goes that route, then he’d have to have every delegation speak. Do you really want to bet that there’s not one single state who’ll reject him? Could Trump stomach the thought of that one dissenting voice at his coronation?
So, if Bush and Romney came out and endorsed Biden, campaigned with him, did TV ads – would that help or hurt Biden’s chances?
If it would help Biden’s chances, they have a responsibility to do whatever they can to stop Trump.
I don’t think Bush would help, but Romney might, and he basically has a lock on that seat in Utah. How great would it be if he could make Utah blue for one election?
I was thinking about this today; is there any prominent, retired Republican who has come out in favor of Trump? Retired means not being paid to be on TV, so Rudy G doesn’t count. What about some of the members of Bush’s cabinet? Rumsfeld, Cheney?
Aspenglow, I totally agree. The latest any non-racist New Yorker could (out of forgivable ignorance) say or feel anything good about Trump was 1989, when he put up that ad calling for the government to murder the Central Park Five.
The latest any non-racist American could (out of forgivable ignorance) say or feel anything good about Trump was 2011, when he loudly supported that birtherist dreck.
Kushner/Miller/Trump LLC would just handpick some loyal Trumpetista from each delegation to be the one who speaks and ram it at the RNC, state party bylaws be damned. (No known reliable lackey in the delegation? They’ll carpetbag one in!)
Palin family was at party with drunken brawl but nobody got arrested. Her latest news is she is getting divorced after 30 years. Sounds like it was her husband’s idea to split up.
And Bristol had kid #3 and divorced her medal of honor winning Marine husband after 2 years of marriage.
