Bush, pere is not a stupid man, and I would expect him to have the sense to vote for someone who isn’t going to crap all over the country for six months, then probably resign after whining that no one will play with him right, and fils will probably listen to him. Fils is not the brightest bulb on the Bush bush, but he is not retarded, and he* knows what it is like to be president*. He knows someone who is incapable of compromise or diplomacy is wrong for the job. Laura is a bit vapid, but that is not the same thing as stupid, either, and she has some common sense. If Ford were alive, I’ll bet he would vote for Clinton as well. Reagan would probably refuse to publicly commit, and would vote for the Libertarian. Or not vote. Nancy would probably be the only prominent member of a Republican family recently to vote for Trump, but even she would not actively campaign for him.
Trump will be a worse president than Sheldon Cooper, because Sheldon Cooper at least has a long attention span, and is capable of understanding convoluted arguments. Trump probably can’t solve an Encyclopedia Brown mystery, assuming he could read one all the way to the end.
Actually, Bush voting for Clinton doesn’t make voting for Clinton sit well with me. Makes me a little sick that I might be voting for the same candidate as a Bush voter.
Good grief, why on Earth would not all the Bushes vote against Trump? Trump has savaged GWB on the Iraq war and he single-handedly scuttled Jeb’s hopes for the presidency. I’d be amazed if any member of any Bush family were to vote for Trump.
George H W Bush was actually a decent president in many regards. H W Bush worked damn hard to end the Soviet empire and to watch Trump blithely stumble into a relationship with Putin in which the United States gets played like a marionette must make him sick to his core.
Many people have said Hillary Clinton is the most qualified person to run for president in many years. I would posit she is second, albeit a close second, to Bush 41.
I hated his dirty Atwater led 1988 campaign, but he was a much better president than Reagan or his son.
There are many, many thousands of dead Iraqi rebels and women and children who were burned, tortured, strafed and/or disappeared by Saddam’s army while American forces were ordered to stand by and do nothing to stop it. And the reason they were rebels in the first place was that Bush encouraged them to rebel against Hussein, and then withheld the U.S. assistance they expected and abandoned them to Saddam Hussein’s cruel and murderous suppression. I’ve never forgiven him for that and never will.
I used to feel this way, but after seeing the much greater suffering and carnage (including the thousands of Americans who died for nothing) from taking Saddam down, I’m glad H.W. didn’t take it further.
