The West Wing 7x21 - Institutional Memory

Wow. That was an interesting episode.

C.J. and Danny - That’s how it should have worked, really. I was laughing at some of Danny’s reactions at the end.

Will Bailey - I never liked you anyway. Have fun in Oregon.

Toby - He’s gonna get the pardon, I’m sure. I can’t imagine he’s actually going to do any time.

Why did they bring Charlie back for 2 lines? I was hoping he’d actually get to be more than a speaking extra.

And is there really a typo in the Constitution?

Someone oughta look into that.

“I called the National Archives. The girl said she couldn’t tell if it was a comma or a smudge.”

Yes, there is comma ambiguity in the constitution. I remember reading about it in a William Safire column in the NYTimes. (Or someplace else – was it here on the SDMB? Hmmm.).

I predict that Charlie will shine in the last episode. He will get the closing line and/or shot.

Nah, I’m betting that honor will go to Martin Sheen. Seems only fair to give Bartlet the final word on his presidency.

I thought this episode was too talky and ultimately very boring. The C.J. and her boyfriend moments went on and on and on. I would have preferred to see more of the rest of the cast.

Huh. I thought this was one of the most Sorkinesque episodes of the John Wells Era, and I was glad that C.J. and Danny finally got to explore their relationship after the 8 years of sexual tension they’ve been through.

I imagine most of the cast was absent since they wanted to save them for the finale. I thought they did a good job of conveying the “senioritis” feeling of only two weeks left until the Inauguration. I could have done with a little less Will Bailey and a little more Toby.

I liked this exchange:

C.J.: “A smudge?”
Toby: [nods] “of law.”

A smudge of law. Heh.

I agree with the Sorkinesque comment, brian. Especially since, once again, Josh Molina is playing someone incredibly whipped:

Will: I’m not moving to Oregon.
Kate: Yes, you are.

Toby is either going to get (an except) the pardon, or gets out early on good behavior. Remember, at the opening of the Barlett Library three years from now, he’s teaching at Columbia.

I liked this episode. I also thought that it was about time the CJ/Danny relationship got discussed. And I hope Josh and Donna are going to back from their vacation in time for the inauguration. There’s only two weeks left now before Santos takes over (and he still hasn’t announced that Vinick is his Sec of State? What’s with that?)

I want Vinick and Santos to get married, and C.J. and Danny to serve as President and Secretary of State.

Remember, you read it here first.

Liked it, mostly. Would have liked to see a lot more Charlie.

I’ve never heard that there’s an ambiguous comma or smudge on the Constitution.

Santos’s brusqueness in concluding his meeting with C.J. was all wrong. If he knew her any better, he’d have known that she wasn’t going to ask “How high?” when he said “Jump!”

Were C.J. and Toby flirting when they were talking in his apartment? Mrs. Heir and I looked at each other and said, “WTF?”

Hope they have Glenn Close return as Chief Justice to swear in Santos.
