The Wire, Transitions, 1/27/07

Are fans expecting too much of the fifth season after its deification?

In other words, would someone who has never heard of The Wire, and is locked up in a room to watch all 5 seasons on DVD, have roughly the same opinion of the fifth as many of the folks here?

Oh, I definitely agree that my expectations were sky-high for this fifth season. How could they not be, as The Wire’s first four seasons were head and shoulders above anything else I’d ever seen?

I may be complaining about things I don’t like, but even this fifth season is as good as anything non-Wire I’ve ever seen; it just fails to utterly blow everything else away, like it did previously.

A friend just forwarded this to me, just in time for the Maryland primaries in two weeks:

I want one of the T-shirts!

Too bad we can’t start contest thread here and link to a contest to see who can come closest to Clay Davis’ “Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-it!”

I tried. Didn’t even come close. I’d love to see videos of Dopers trying it.

I have it down pat ‘cause I’m southern (we always say it that way) and have been cussin’ like a sailor since I was five.

My wife saw a “Carcetti for Mayor” in a window the other day.

I saw (online) some bumper stickers and t-shirts to that effect. Those came out either after S3, or during S4.

There’s also a tee-shirt with a shopping cart on it, and “Bubbles Depot”.

I was tempted to buy it, but I bought a Deadwood tee – Wu’s Deli, I think it said – and was disappointed with the quality. Thin material and sized funny.
