I having nothing to contribute inre: the Stones, but this thread has blown my mind by revealing that I’ve been using the term “pocket” incorrectly for years. My guitar teacher then explained it to me in a really confusing way that “playing in the pocket” meant playing just a tiny bit behind the rhythm section so the drum and bass lead the groove and the guitars follow. It always seemed weird.
Oh yeah - great connection to make and pretty ironic.
typoink - that sounds like an overthought definition. If the music you are listening to and/or part of making has a clear place for you to bop your foot, it has a good pocket.
